Bank of America 500

Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord, North Carolina
Track - 1.5 Mile Quad Oval Intermediate Track
24° Banking in the Corners

It was Martin Truex Jr. dominating in Dover as the Round of 16 came to an end on Sunday. We now head into the Round of 12 which is definitely one of the most intriguing as the always unpredictable Talladega is the elimination race. Look for drivers and teams to push hard to score a win in the first two races.

The second round begins with the points being reset to 3000 for all drivers as they head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Bank of America 500 on Saturday night. The weather looks alright for Thursday and teams should easily get in first practice and qualifying. Friday is a different story as early in the week the forecast calls for around 60% of rain in the afternoon which could wreak havoc on the final two practice sessions. Stay tuned for weather updates should something change.

The following is the initial schedule for the weekend:

  • First Practice - Thursday @ 1:30 p.m. ET
  • Qualifying - Thursday @ 7:20 p.m. ET
  • Second Practice - Cancelled
  • Final Practice - Cancelled
  • Race - Saturday @ 7:00 .pm. ET

Are looking to get better as fantasy NASCAR but don't have the time to conduct all the research necessary? Check out my DFS NASCAR Cheatsheet which will give you the edge to cash more consistently on DraftKings. The cheatsheet includes driver salaries, current form(Last 5 races), Track History(Last 5 Years), Loop Data, weekly salary trends,  and practice and qualifying ranks. I have also created a weighting system which changes weekly and takes in to account all of the things listed previously. I update the practice and qualifying as they happen which changes the overall rankings through the weekend. The cheatsheet will also be final shortly after the final practice. If you purchase the cheatsheet prior to final practice you will receive an email when the final lineup has been set.

If you have any questions about the cheatsheet throw me an email(jagerbombs99@gmail.com) or hit me up on Twitter(@jager_bombs9).

Upper Tier Targets ($9,000+)

Kevin Harvick
DraftKings - $10,700
Practice #1 - 1st
Qualified - 1st

His win at New Hampshire proved to be huge in the scheme of things as early issues last weekend at Dover resulted in a 37th place finish. On to round two where he is easily the favorite to win here at Charlotte where he has dominated lately. Over the last five years(10 races) he is the only driver to record multiple wins(2) and also has five Top 5's and nine Top 10 finishes. The #4 team unloaded on Thursday and had the fastest car in opening practice and went on to win the pole later in the afternoon. Look for a ton of dominator points from Harvick and a very good shot at winning the race and locking his spot in the Round of 8. He is safe in all formats.

Denny Hamlin
DraftKings - $9,300
Practice #1 - 5th
Qualified - 9th

He hasn't recorded a career win here at Charlotte but Denny has been extremely consistent here with the 3rd best average finish(12.36) among active drivers. Over the past 10 races here he has recorded five Top 5's and nine Top 10 finishes. He is more than due to get that first win at Charlotte. The current form has also been good as Denny has put up the 2nd most DraftKings points per race(56) over the last five races. At a low $9K price he is a terrific value play in any format and will start inside the Top 10 Saturday night.

Kyle Busch
DraftKings - $10,200
Practice #1 - 4th
Qualified - 4th

You didn't think I was going to get through the to tier and not mention Kyle did you? I honestly like each of top three drivers in salary(Truex, Harvick, Busch) but lean to Harvick and Kyle for the savings and possible lower ownership. Truex can't be faded if you are making multiple lineups. Busch comes in as the 3rd cheapest of the three and has been trending towards a win for some time now as his last five races have gone 11th, 9th, 8th, 3rd, 2nd. Charlotte is one of two tracks left that Kyle has not recorded a win but he has been very good here lately with five Top 5's and six Top 10's in the last 10 races. He was the 4th fastest car in the opening practice and also qualified in the 4th spot for the race Saturday night.

Also Consider - Kyle Larson(Place Differential Value starting 25th)

Middle Tier Targets ($7,000-$9,000)

Kasey Kahne
DraftKings - $8,500
Practice #1 - 18th
Qualified - 12th

His price took a big jump this week up $900 from Dover which makes him a GPP only play. I actually like the price jump as it should help bring the ownership down. After four straight Top 10 finishes Kahne came in 12th last week making it seven straight races with a Top 15 finish. He now comes back to Charlotte where he has had success in the past. He has four wins here over his career with one coming in the last five years where he has also added four other Top 5's and six Top 10 finishes.

Austin Dillon
DraftKings - $8,200
Practice #1 - 13th
Qualified - 19th

The lowest price driver still remaining in the Chase is Austin Dillon who makes an excellent GPP pick this week. He made it through the first round with an impressive run at Dover where they didn't show a bunch of speed in practice but slowly get better throughout the race, finishing 8th. He has raced at Charlotte five times in his career and while he has recorded just one Top 10 he has a nice 12.8 average finish.

Also Consider - Austin Dillon

Low End Targets ($6,900 and Below)

Aric Almirola
DraftKings - $6,400
Practice #1 - 30th
Qualified - 33rd

Looking at the bottom tier there are only three drivers with a Top 10 here at Charlotte over the last five years. Almirola is one of those drivers and he also has the best average finish(18.9) of the bottom tier options over that time frame. He has also scored the second most Draftkings points per race(27.2) over the last five races with three Top 20 finishes. If the #43 team can once again find Top 20 speed, Almirola will come with some nice place differential value as he will be starting 33rd on Saturday night.

Also Consider - Paul Menard

Post Practice & Qualifying Update

Qualifying Top 10

  1. #4 Kevin Harvick
  2. #88 Alex Bowman
  3. #24 Chase Elliott
  4. #18 Kyle Busch
  5. #14 Tony Stewart
  6. #47 AJ Allmendinger
  7. #78 Martin Truex Jr.
  8. #19 Carl Edwards
  9. #11 Denny Hamlin
  10. #22 Joey Logano
