Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 10/20/16

Welcome back for another day of daily fantasy hockey with DFSR. Through the first week of the season we are down to four undefeated teams(VAN, STL, WSH, TB), all of which will be in action Thursday night. We have a big 11 game slate with just one team(TOR) playing on a back to back night. There are also three teams(SJ, PIT, COL) who are playing a third game in four nights with the Sharks and Avs playing all three of those games on the road. Let's take a look at some top plays for tonight.

GOALIES

Ben Bishop FD - $9300 DK - $8300
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 14.02 DK - 3.51

It's been a rocky start for the Bolts goalie allowing seven goals on 63 shots faced for a .889 save% but did end up winning both games.  Never fear as he is an elite goalie on an elite team and also gets a great matchup vs. the Avs are playing a third game in four nights and all on the road. The Lightning are huge -200 favorites in this one giving Bishop big time win potential. He is safe in all formats.

Carey Price FD - $9300 DK - $8500
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 13.39 DK - 3.35

He's back!! He missed the Habs first three games of the season dealing with the flu but has been confirmed starting and brings a boost to the entire team. He was tremendous for Team Canada going 5-0 with a .957 save % in the World Cup and is coming off a 43 win season where he recorded a .933 save % for the Canadiens. When he was confirmed the Vegas line quickly opened at -210 for the home team making Price a great play in any format. 

 

CENTERS

Steven Stamkos FD - $8400 DK - $7300
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 17.77 DK - 5.66

After missing the end of the regular season and playoffs Stamkos has started the new season off red hot with four points in his first three games. He has also seen hi since rise above the 20 min threshold and is averaging over four shots a game giving hi a very nice floor on a night to night basis. He will get a great opportunity to extend his point streak to four games tonight as the Avs comes to town playing their third game in four nights on the road.

Alex Galchenyuk FD - $5900 DK - $6100
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 11.97 DK - 3.9

Early in the NHL season the Montreal Canadiens, without Carey Price, have the largest goal differential(+6) thanks to contributions from the top line. Galchenyuk is the cheapest on the line on both sites and makes an excellent play in any format. He has recorded an assist in each of the Habs first three games and while the shot total is down you can expect the volume to grow as he averaged over 16 shot attempts per 60 min last season. He gets a great matchup vs. the Coyotes who have allowed 10 goals against in their first two games.

Devin Shore FD - $3700 DK - $3000
Opponent - LA
Proj Pts FD - 8.14 DK - 2.5

The Stars second line offers a great opportunity to save some salary without giving up a whole lot of upside. Devin Shore and Brett Ritchie are near minimum price and have been skating with Patrick Sharp on the second line. Both are projected for 16+ minutes and both will be involved in the powerplay.

WINGERS

Vladimir Tarasenko FD - $8000 DK - $7400
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 17 DK - 5.36

He comes at a discount form the top plays(Ovi, Benn) and has showed he belongs in the same class. He has started the season with four goals and two assists(3 PP points) helping the Blues to a 3-0-1 record. He provides a very high floor with shot volume(19 shots) and has multi point upside in almost every game he plays. Lock him in all formats in a great matchup on the road in Edmonton.

Zach Parise FD - $6900 DK - $6400
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 14.21 DK - 4.56

The often injured Parise hasn't played a full season since the '11/'12 season and when healthy is an elite option. The reality is that in DFS we don't care if he plays a whole season, as we are only focused on tonight and tonight he has a great matchup. He has a new linemate in Eric Staal and a matchup vs. the Leafs who have allowed over 3.5 goals per game.

DEFENSEMEN

Brent Burns FD - $8200 DK - $7900
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 16.26 DK - 5.33

With no Senators and Karlsson tonight it will be all Burns at the top. He has been everything we expect and more to start the year with eight points in his first four games. We all know about the upside as he is very aggressive offensively but he is also a very safe play with a high floor. He contributes with blocks(9) and high shot volume(20) making him a great play to pay up for in cash games if you can find enough value.

Kris Russell FD - $3500 DK - $4200
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 7.5 DK - 2.25

On the low end it is almost impossible to ignore Russell in all formats. While he isn't known for his offensive prowess he has already recorded three points this season. He may lack the upside but the floor is very high as he is one of the league's top shot blocks and is coming off a game where he blocked a season high eight.  With +/- no longer a factor he is safe on all sites and is a part of the top pairing in Edmonton.
