Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 11/05/16

Happy Saturday DFSR readers. We a big a day in the NHL with 13 games total. With one afternoon matchup between the Wild and Avs we will turn our attention to the 12 game main slate tonight. Let's take a look at some of the top plays at each position

GOALIES

Braden Holtby FD - $9600 DK - $8300

The top goalie tonight is going to be Braden Holtby who comes at a slight discount off Carey Price. It's also very hard to tell how the Habs will perform after being blasted 10-0 last night to the Blue Jackets. The Capitals open as -190 home favorites in a divisional rivalry against the Florida Panthers. The Caps have been red hot as of late winning four straight to push their record to 7-2-1 on the season. Holtby has also been playing very well winning his last three starts and has already beat Florida once this year. The Panthers rank among the Top 10 in shot for per game which should give enough save opportunities to Holtby to be considered in cash or GPP tonight.

 

Carter Hutton FD - $8100 DK - $7400
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 15.03 DK - 3.76

From a value perspective there is no better option than backup Carter Hutton who will get the start for the Blues tonight. St. Louis also opens as a big -190 favorite tonight as they will be facing a Blue Jackets team playing on back to back nights. The good news is they very well could have used up all their scoring last night as they embarrassed the Canadiens 10-0. Hutton will be making his third start of the season after splitting his first two but had a very serviceable .918 save percentage. With the inconsistency of backup goalies I would only recommend using Hutton in GPP formats tonight. 

 

 

CENTERS

John Tavares FD - $7600 DK - $7400
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 16.57 DK - 5.29

When looking at the center position tonight I am going to start by taking the value and discount with John Tavares. The initial matchup doesn't look to appealing as the Oilers started off the year red hot and rank 8th in offense and 10th in defense. They have started to slip recently dropping three straight, making it a perfect time to target them while they are on the road. Johnny T has been terrific to start the year recording nine points and comes into tonight's matchup having picked up points in three straight. He provides a very high floor as he is currently averaging 19.4 shot attempts per 60 which has calculated into around four shots on net per game. I only recommend staking him with Josh Bailey who plays with Tavares on the top line and on the powerplay.

Artem Anisimov FD - $5600 DK - $6000
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 11.07 DK - 3.34

If you have been living under a rock for the first few weeks of the season you have obviously missed the monster start Anisimov is having.  He leads the league with 14 points through the first 11 games with a very balanced seven goals and seven assists. He is doing all this damage without the services of Patrick Kane who was moved up to a line with Toews and Panik. One could say that the second line is what has carried the Hawks to a division leading 15 points. The best part about Anisimov is that his price has yet to take a bump that reflects the production. Take advantage in a great matchup against the Stars who have struggled defensively ranking 21st, allowing 3.1 goals per game.

WINGERS

Alexander Ovechkin FD - $8500 DK - $8200
Opponent - FLA
Proj Pts FD - 18.19 DK - 6.01

If you are looking for safety look no further. As expected he is once again leading the league when looking at shot attempts per 60 minutes(25.6) which has lead to 43 shots on goal so far this season. He gets top minutes and the highest usage on the powerplay of any player in the NHL. The Panthers have been good defensively(13th) but have struggled on penalty kill which is where Ovechkin shines and the upside comes into play tonight.

PP Stack with: Nicklas Backstrom, TJ Oshie, Marcus Johansson

 
Jeff Skinner FD - $6800 DK - $6100
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 17.25 DK - 5.1

From a PTS/$ standpoint Jeff Skinner is a top value play on both sites tonight. He price continues to roam in the mid tier despite averaging 5.5 DraftKings and 20.5 FanDuel points per game. He is providing a very high floor with 23.7 shot attempts per 60 minutes and has give us huge upside with four multi point games so far this season. He will normally come in low owned as the Hurricanes just aren't an attractive offensive team which makes this a perfect situation for tournaments tonight in a matchup vs. a struggling Predators team.

DEFENSEMEN

Alex Pietrangelo FD - $5600 DK - $4900
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 11.53 DK - 3.5

The price is continues to drop on DraftKings and has reached  the sub$5K level making it a great time to buy. He plays on the top pairing for the Blues and gets heavy minutes on the powerplay. The team has struggled early on but Pietrangelo has been consistent with six points in 11 games while averaging close to two blocks and three shots on goal per game. He is safe in all formats tonight.

 

Alec Martinez FD - $4700 DK - $4600
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 11.87 DK - 3.69

We cannot touch on value D men without mentioning the Kings Alec Martinez. He comes with a sub $5K price on both sites and has been terrific to start the year with nine points in 11 games while providing a very similar floor to Pietrangelo with shots and blocks. Until the price comes up I will continue to roll out Martinez in all formats.
