Welcome back for a Monday edition of our daily fantasy hockey picks. Terrific slate today with seven games on tap including a rivalry matchup between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers, Blue Jackets and Flames all played Sunday and will be the only teams playing on back to back nights. Let's take a look at some of the top plays from our projection system.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. GOALIES

Martin JonesMartin Jones FD - $8100 DK - $8200
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 12.58 DK - 3.15

Tonight's slate has a GPP feel to it as there is really no goalie in a high probability situation that I feel fully comfortable with in cash games. If you are firm on playing a cash game my top choice would be Martin Jones, home to the Devils tonight. There are no odds released at this time but I would assume that the Sharks will be around -140 favorites as they have been much better at home(4-2). Jones has also been a bit better at home with a .919 save % over a .909 on the road. The reason he falls as a GPP only for me is the fact he is only facing around 25 shots per game which really limits the floor. I would make an exception tonight on this slate and use him in all formats.

Sergei BobrovskySergei Bobrovsky FD - $9000 DK - $7900
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 13.13 DK - 3.28

So I wrote this up earlier before I noticed Bobrovsky sitting there in a great matchup at home. The Jackets are playing on a back to back nights with Bob starting yesterday in the win against the Caps so be sure the check LeftWingLock for confirmation later in the day. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him back between the pipes as he is playing great lately, winning four straight games and has been even better at home(7-2, 9.32 sv%) this season. He faces a struggling Avs team ranked 27th in offense and 21st in defense while Bob has the 2nd best offense and 6th best defense in front of him. Curtis McElhinney would make a nice salary relief GPP play if Bob should sit tonight.

CENTERS

Connor McDavidConnor McDavid FD - $7900 DK - $8200
Opponent - CHI
Proj Pts FD - 17.27 DK - 5.52

The price is starting to go up again after he recorded his first career hat trick on Saturday night but it definitely isn't at it's peak yet. Through a quarter of the season he is averaging just over a point per game and has led the Oilers to a tie in the Pacific Division. The best news about McDavid is that his floor is getting higher as he has recorded three or more shots in three of his last four games. This game has the potential for some scoring as both teams carry Top 10 offenses into the matchup.

Stack With: Milan Lucic, Jesse Puljujarvi

Alexander WennbergAlexander Wennberg FD - $5000 DK - $5100
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 12.59 DK - 3.5

From a PTS/$ perspective Wennberg is the top center tonight. He is coming off a multi point game in an impressive win in Washington last night and is averaging over a point per game through 16 games. The Blue Jackets present the best matchup for scoring tonight as their 2nd overall offense and 1st overall powerplay face the struggling Avs and their 21st ranked defense and 24th ranked penalty kill. The Avs also take the 5th most penalties per game(12.0) which should give a few added opportunities for Wennberg and the top powerplay unit.

PP Stack with: Cam Atkinson, Nick Foligno, Sam Gagner

WINGERS

Nikita KucherovNikita Kucherov FD - $7600 DK - $7400
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 12.96 DK - 4.21

The loss of Steven Stamkos could prove to be a huge obstacle to overcome from a team perspective. From a fantasy point of view, it gives a usage boost to Nikita Kucherov who has been lighting it up this season with 22 points in 18 games. He is already averaging over 18 minutes per game and could see it get much closer to 20 over the next few months. Stacking the Bolts top line makes perfect sense now as Kucherov elevates his linemates who both come at a discount.....for now.

Stack with: Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn

Cam AtkinsonCam Atkinson FD - $6300 DK - $5400
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 13.41 DK - 4.21

I mentioned stacking Atkinson on the powerplay with Wennberg above and also think he makes an excellent stand alone play for cash games. He comes with a very affordable mid range price and is coming in hot with point sin three straight and four of his last five games and is averaging just shy of a point per game on the leagues #2 offense.

Stack with: Brandon Dubinsky, Boone Jenner

DEFENSEMEN

Zachary WerenskiZachary Werenski FD - $5100 DK - $5700
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 9.83 DK - 3.07

As you can probably already tell I am very high on the Blue Jackets tonight. Werenski, like Atkinson, makes a great stand alone option for cash games or as a part of a Blue Jackets stack. Werenski sits tied with Brent Burns and other tied for 2nd in the league in points among defensemen. He is playing 22+ minutes per game and over 2.5 minutes per game on the top powerplay unit. Then there is the matchup that I mentioned earlier. The Avs rank 21st in defense and 24th in penalty kill.

Jared SpurgeonJared Spurgeon FD - $4600 DK - $4100
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 9.95 DK - 3.17

If yo are looking to save down even further consider Spurgeon in the mid to low $4K range. He hasn't shown a ton of offensive upside with just five points in 13 games this season but is playing heavy minutes and carries a high floor. He is averaging over two blocks per game and has recorded three or more shots on goal in four of his last five games. Lock and load!

Also Consider: Ryan Ellis(NSH)
