Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 1/2/17

Welcome back hockey fans. After a nice little New Years day break where we got to enjoy the 10th Anniversary of the Winter Classic, we are back with a huge 12-game slate on Tuesday that includes nine of the Top 10 offenses and eight of the bottom 10 defense in action. Let's jump in and take a look at some of the top picks at each position.

GOALIE

Marc-Andre Fleury FD - $7900 DK - $7800
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 16.97 DK - 4.24

There are some nice goalie options today on this 12-game slate but I lead off with Fleury for a couple reasons. For cash games, we always preach finding a home favorite and Fleury is just that as the Golden Knights are sitting as -140 home favorites. The other thing that draws me to Fleury is the huge discount he offers and how well he has been playing lately. He has won four straight starts and is 7-1-1 over his last 10 starts with an elite .938 save % and one shutout. The Preds are a Top 10 offense but the Knights are the leagues best team on home ice(16-2-1). I will be rolling with Fleury as my main cash game goalie and will also get him into some GPP lineups with his sub $8K price tag on both sites.

Andrei Vasilevskiy FD - $9600 DK - $8300
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 14.87 DK - 3.72

The Bolts goalie has been elite lately winning four straight games allowing just five goals with two shutouts and over his last 10 games has gone 8-1-1 with a ridiculous .944 save % and three shutouts. With that all-world run, he now not only leads the league with 25 wins but also leads all goalies with a 2.02 GAA and .935 save % on the season. Tonight he gets a tougher matchup on the road vs. the Leafs and their fourth-ranked offense but at this point, he is practically matchup-proof and while we preach home goalies in cash games I think we can consider him in this spot.

Also Consider: Connor Hellebuyck(WPG) in GPP formats.

 

CENTERS

Steven Stamkos FD - $8600 DK - $7800
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 15.73 DK - 4.68

The Lightning's top line and #1 offense is a great place to start on Tuesday night. Stamkos comes in with four goals in his last three games and is tied for third in the league with 49 points and leads the league with 24 points on the powerplay. Looking at the top three centers on the slate(McDavid, Tavares the others), Stamkos also has the best matchup going into Toronto to face the Leafs who have dropped two straight while giving up 10 goals and now rank 20th defensively. Roll with Stamkos in all formats tonight.

Stack with: Vladislav Namestnikov, Nikita Kucherov

Ryan Getzlaf FD - $7400 DK - $6800
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 13.55 DK - 3.92

The Regina, Saskatchewan product sat out over a month due to injury and since returning to the lineup has been in fine form with 13 points in his first 10 games played while skating over 20 minutes per game. He doesn't provide the shot volume(15 shots) needed to be considered in cash games but is an excellent GPP pivot tonight in an elite matchup vs. the Canucks who dropped nine of their last 11 games while giving up 50 goals(4.5 per game and now rank 26th overall defensively.

Stack with: Rickard Rakell, Antoine Vermette

David Krejci FD - $5400 DK - $4200
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 11.13 DK - 3.39

From a PTS/$ perspective, it will be very tough to avoid David Krejci tonight. He returned from an upper-body injury on the 30th and promptly tallied a goal and an assist to go along with five shots on goal. He centers the second line and powerplay unit and being in and out of the lineup this season has helped keep his price in the value range, especially on DraftKings in the low $4K range. On top of that, he gets an elite matchup vs. the Islanders who have been better on home ice but rank dead last in defense. Fire up Krejci in all formats.

WINGERS

Alex Ovechkin FD - $8600 DK - $7900
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 16.89 DK - 4.9

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either Kucherov over Ovi but I already mentioned the Lightning's elite top line in the center section so I will talk about the "Great 8" in this spot. He hasn't been as productive lately with just three goals and eight points in his last 10 games but continues to provide a very high floor leading the league with 4.5 shots on goal per game and also has a crazy 24.4 iCorsi per 60 this season. The matchup is on the plus side vs. the Hurricanes who rank 18th defensively and I think with Kucherov and the Bolts in a great spot, Ovi will also come at an ownership discount. He is safe in all formats.

Stack with: Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov(PP), T.J. Oshie(PP)

Jakub Voracek FD - $7600 DK - $6600
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 14.6 DK - 4.28

If you are looking for a game with a lot of scoring, don't overlook the Flyers/Penguins matchup tonight. Going back to the start of the 2015-16 season, these teams have played nine times in the regular season and have combined for four or more goals in each game and seven or more goals in seven of those games. Voracek is having a monster season right now with 46 points in just 38 games including 12 over his last 10 games with four multi-point efforts. He skates on the second line with Filppula and Raffl but joins the top line on the powerplay. All things considered, Voracek is a great play in all formats at a discount from the top-tier wingers.

Jesse Puljujarvi FD - $4300 DK - $5400
Opponent - LA
Proj Pts FD - 9.03 DK - 2.59

If you are looking for value, especially on FanDuel, get some exposure to Jesse Puljujarvi who is skating on the top line with Connor McDavid and Milan Lucic. He only has 11 points on the season in 22 games but that total will likely climb fast considering his advanced stats as he carries an elite 20.4 iCorsi per 60 and 1.3 expected goals per 60 into this game and has skated nearly two minutes per game on the powerplay in three of his last four games. The matchup is not ideal against the Kings #1 defense but the salary relief is enough to consider him in all formats.

DEFENSEMEN

Brent Burns FD - $7300 DK - $7000
Opponent - MON
Proj Pts FD - 16.63 DK - 5.03

With 12 games on the schedule, there is more than enough value plays to fit in Burns who is the elite option at the position. He started the year off slow offensively but has been red-hot lately with 13 points over his last 10 and also provides a very high floor as he leads all D-men with an average of 4.1 shots per game and a 22.4 iCorsi per 60. The matchup vs. the Habs is better than you might expect as they are not only ranked 21st defensively but they have also dropped four straight games giving up 12 goals.

Jared Spurgeon FD - $4800 DK - $4900
Opponent - FLA
Proj Pts FD - 10.2 DK - 3.04

He has lacked the offensive upside he flashed before his injury in late November but in seven games since returning has tallied 24 blocks and 12 shots on goal to give us a nice PTS/$ value at a sub $5K price tag. Tonight could be the night he breaks out offensively as the Wild welcome in the Panthers and their 23rd-ranked defense tonight. At these prices, he is safe in all formats.

Also Consider: Shayne Gostisbehere(PHI), Kris Russell(EDM)
