Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 3/20/18

Hello hockey fans and welcome to a very exciting day of NHL action here at DFSR. Today, we have a monster 11-game slate on tap for us with only three teams(CLB, FLA, LA) playing on consecutive nights so there will be a lot of well-rested players giving it all they have this evening. Let's get this party started, my friends.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Marc-Andre FleuryMarc-Andre Fleury FD - $8400 DK - $8500
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 15.66 DK - 3.91

Let's start this exciting slate with The Flower who is coming off of a 42 save shutout against the Flames in his last start. The veteran is 26-11-3 this season to go along with a stifling .929 save % and a 2.18 GAA, and the Canucks have not scored a single goal in their last three road games. That is very poor but not surprising as they own the league's 27th ranked offense and the Knights should be massive favorites so all things considered, Fleury is an elite play and my favorite cash game goalie this evening.

Connor HellebuyckConnor Hellebuyck FD - $8500 DK - $8300
Opponent - LA
Proj Pts FD - 18 DK - 4.5

While it's almost impossible to fade Fleury in cash games today, we need to seperate ourselves from the masses in our tournament lineups so let's take a look at Hellebuyck for a moment. The Jets have an elite team this season and this young man is 37-11-9 to go along with an impressive .925 save % and six shutouts. The Kings are ranked 16th offensively which isn't too bad but they went to overtime in Minnesota last night and they will be very tired today. The Jets have a great chance at a victory here so fire up Bucky in your GPP lineups.

**Update - Eric Comrie starting for the Jets tonight**

Also Consider: Petr Mrazek(PHI) vs. his former team in GPP lineups.

CENTERS

Nathan MacKinnonNathan MacKinnon FD - $9000 DK - $7900
Opponent - CHI
Proj Pts FD - 16.49 DK - 4.76

If we can't get excited about the NHL's future then I'm not sure what we can get excited about. This young superstar has looked possessed for most of the season as he has 89 points in 64 games to go along with an elite 3.86 shot per game average. What's even more impressive is the fact that he has 13 goals and 11 assists during his current 12-game point streak and has averaged a ridiculous 5.75 shots per game during that span. The Hawks have mailed it in for the season and they've allowed 16 goals in their last three games so all things considered, MacKinnon is an elite play and my top center in all formats.

Stack with: Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen

Sean CouturierSean Couturier FD - $6700 DK - $6500
Opponent - DET
Proj Pts FD - 11.31 DK - 3.22

The Wings have been terrible lately as they've lost 10 games in a row while opening the floodgates and allowing 41 goals during that span. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how bad that is so we need exposure to the Flyers today. Enter Couturier, who has five assists to go along with 10 shots and seven blocks during his current four-game point streak and he has 68 points in 73 games while averaging just under three shots per game. He offers a good mixture of safety and upside so lock him and load him in all formats against an awful Wings defense.

Stack with: Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny

Lars EllerLars Eller FD - $4500 DK - $4200
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 9.34 DK - 2.66

Ice time equals opportunity and this guy was recently promoted to the second-line after Evgeny Kuznetsov went down with an injury. The veteran two-way specialist has two goals in his last three games and while he has fired only four shots during that span, he has seven blocks in his last two and 12 in his last four. That is very impressive for a forward and at these dirt cheap prices and his current promotion, Eller is a great play in all formats.

Stack with: T.J. Oshie, Andre Burakovsky

Also Consider: Vincent Trocheck(FLA), Mika Zibanejad(NYR), Travis Zajac(NJ)

WINGERS

Patrik LainePatrik Laine FD - $8400 DK - $7300
Opponent - LA
Proj Pts FD - 15.56 DK - 4.54

The sophomore sensation scored two goals last game to extend his current point-streak to an unreal 15 games which is the longest point streak by a teenager in NHL history. During his record-breaking streak, nine of those games were multi-point efforts and he is now tied with Alex Ovechkin with 43 goals and averages just under three shots on goal per game. While the Kings own the league's 2nd overall defense, they went to overtime in Minnesota last night and these two teams scored seven total goals in their last meeting so all things considered, Laine is an elite GPP play and a solid cash game play this evening.

Stack with: Paul Stastny, Nikolaj Ehlers

Patric HornqvistPatric Hornqvist FD - $6600 DK - $7200
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 13.97 DK - 4.11

The Penguins are in a fabulous spot tonight as they are about the play the Isles and their pathetic league-worst defense. I had to perform an eye exam on myself to make sure I wasn't seeing double when I first glanced at this guy's recent statistics. The veteran winger has four goals, an assist, and an amazing 27 shots on goal in his last four games which gives him a ton of upside and he has averaged 3.5 shots per game and just under a block per game, which gives him an elite floor. Fading the Penguins tonight is not a good idea and Hornqvist is the first one that I will be locking into 100% of my lineups in all formats.

Stack with: Evgeni Malkin, Carl Hagelin

Or PP Stack with: Sidney Crosby, Phil Kessel, Evgeni Malkin

Ty RattieTy Rattie FD - $3500 DK - $4000
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 7.2 DK - 2.1

The Oilers were looking for some kind of a spark to get them going so they recalled this young speedster from the AHL and they lined him up beside the wonder kid Connor McDavid on the #1 line. Wow, that is quite the promotion and he has been awesome in his last two games as he has two goals, an assist, and nine shots while logging an average of around 16 minutes of ice-time. The Hurricanes are ranked 21st defensively and from a PTS/$ perspective, Rattie is very hard to ignore making him a terrific play in all formats.

Stack with: Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

Also Consider: J.T. Miller(TB), Evander Kane(SJ), Bryan Rust(PIT)

DEFENSEMEN

Neal PionkNeal Pionk FD - $4400 DK - $3700
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 9.15 DK - 2.76

The Rangers are all but done for the season so they are giving the rookie an opportunity to show them what he's made of and he's been nothing short of impressive lately. Pionk has six assists during his current four-game point streak to go along with 10 shots and eight blocks in his last five. What makes him even more appealing is the fact that he has been playing on the #1 powerplay unit where he recorded two assists two games ago so all things considered, Pionk is a great play in all formats.

Ryan PulockRyan Pulock FD - $4300 DK - $4500
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 10.49 DK - 3.08

Saving money at the defense position is very important especially on large slates so enter Pulock, who has also impressed lately as he has a goal, four assists, eight shots, and three blocks during his current three-game point streak. The hard-shooting point man logs time on the #2 powerplay unit for the Isles so fire him up in all formats and spend elsewhere, my friends.

Also Consider: Shayne Gostisbehere(PHI), Tyson Barrie(COL), Jordan Oesterle(CHI)

  1. Was clearly a mistake that he overlooked. All fixed now.

  2. It’s supposed to be 89 points for MacKinnon and there is no player named TJ Miller in the NHL. It’s JT Miller

  3. **Update**

Eric Comrie starting over Connor Hellebuyck for the Jets.

  4. With news that it is Comrie starting over Hellebuyck, I’m not a big fan of him tonight. On that note, the Avalanche are in the middle of the playoff race in the West and Semyon Varlamov has been on fire lately with only one goal allowed in the three of his last four starts with two of them being on the road. He also has an amazing .958 save% during that span making him a solid gpp play today against The Hawks.
