Welcome to the daily MLB updates and news article. We'll try and update it right up to line-up locks with as much information as comes across our desks. Let's get to it!

Last night's picks can be found here, so you can wrap your mind around what you need to be looking at before lineups lock today.

What We Know

The Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs meet in today's only afternoon game. Weather in that game is good to go witha  slight 4-5 mph wind blowing straight out.

There are 14 more games on the evening slate with things getting started at 7:00 pm et. There are a few weather concerns that we will need to monitor throughout the day.

We could see delays or possibly a postponement in Baltimore as there is a  greater than 50% chance of rain/showers throughout the day and night. Stay tuned!

Three other games have a possibility of a rain delay. The Red Sox/Yankees game coudl see a slight delay at some point during the game with a 15-30% chance of showers after the game starts. We are not expecting anything that will postpone this game so roll with your Yankees and Red Sox hitters tonight. The two games in California(TB vs. LAA and COL vs. SF) have a slight chance of a delay but are currently only seeing forecasts calling for a 15% chance of showers. Roll out players from these teams with confidence.

Personnel

  • Jason Heyward is back in the Cubs lineup after missing four starts with a wrist injury
  • Danny Valencia will return from the 15 day DL and resume his role as the A's starting 3B if the game doesn't get rained out
  • The Washington Nationals have sent Matt den Dekker back to Triple A Syracuse to make room for the return of Ben Revere who will be back in the leadoff spot for today's game.
  • Justin Bour has been out of the Marlins lineup since Tuesday with a dislocated pinkie finger. He could return as soon as tonight.
  • Garrett Richards has been scratched from his Friday start vs. the Rays and is expected to need Tommy John Surgery which would end his 2016 season.
  • Nick Hundley was scratched yesterday after tweaking his oblique in batting practice. He is being re evaluated today before the Rockies announce whether he will need a DL stint. Look for another start from Tony Wolters tonight.
  • Brett Gardner is expected back in the lineup for the Yankees on Friday after sitting out yesterday. He was hit on the elbow by a pitch during Wednesday's game
  • Domingo Santana has been dealing with shoulder pain and has been in and out of the lineup for the Brewers recently. He made a pinch hit appearance last night and could very well be back at the top of the order on Friday evening.

The "Every Lineup" Guys

Kyle Seager FD 3600 DK 4400
Opponent - HOU (Fister) Park - @HOU
FD - 11.52 DK - 8.95

The projection system has had time since the article was published last night to process more data and still absolutely loves Kyle Seager as one of the top plays of the day. When running the optimizer for 25 lineups he show sup in 21 on DraftKings and all 25 on FanDuel. Even computers can see right through Doug Fister and can't trust him as far as they can throw him and computers  don't even have arms. Fister has given up a .407 wOBA and five home runs to left handed bats this season which is bad news for him today facing the Mariners and their stacked LH lineup. Seager isn't hitting for average yet in 2016 but is due for positive regression working with a .190 BABIP. Despite the low average he has been producing runs with six homers and 18 RBI.

Billy Hamilton FD 2400 DK 3900
Opponent - MIL (Cravy) Park - @CIN
FD - 10.42 DK - 10.34

As you may have noticed there a ton of excellent starting pitchers on the Friday slate. This limits the amount of teams that we can target our hitters from but doesn't mean there aren't terrific matchups. Take the Reds for example. They get a great matchup vs. Tyler Cravy who is making a spot start for Wily Peralta on Friday. Although he was decent coming out of the pen in five appearances early in the year he struggled last season going 0-8 with 5.70 ERA. He also walked over 4.5 batters per nine innings and only induced a 40% GB rate. After starting the year at the bottom of the order, Hamilton has worked his way back up to second and hasn't seen the price adjust yet. He provides a ton of value today with his incredible speed. He just needs to get on base and let the power bats do their job.

One other note: There are big differences between DraftKings and FanDuel pricing so the optimal lineups are looking quite different.

These are players that show up in each of the top 10 lineups as produced by our lineup optimizer. This doesn't necessarily mean that they're "safe," it just means that their projected weighted-mean point total is a solid building block for a great lineup foundation today.

Good luck out there today! If you want access to all of our numbers, get started with a free trial below of our lineup optimizer, on us!
