Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Minnesota Twins vs. Mike Pelfrey(Detroit)

Another day, another article that picks on Mike Pelfrey. I promise that we don't have anything personal against the guy, he's just really not what we consider to be a serviceable big league pitcher. What you need to know about Pelfrey is that he's got an ERA and an xFIP closing in on 6, he's allowed almost as many walks as he has strikeouts, and has already given up 6 home runs this season. I know he had a decent outing against Baltimore his last time out, but I think that was more of a fluke than a sustainable trend. Comerica Park is actually an above average hitters park (which surprised me), and for what it's worth Pelfrey's ERA balloons to 7.04 when he's at home. For the Twins stack, our system really likes Joe Mauer, Brian Dozier, Trevor Plouffe, and Miguel Sano. Each of these guys has struggled a bit this season, but who better to have a break-out game against than one of the worst big league starting pitchers? Because of their struggles most of these guys are pretty affordable and allow you the option to spend big on pitching, which is good because this slate has plenty of big arms to choose from.

Seattle Mariners vs. Ubaldo Jimenez(Orioles)

Ubaldo Jimenez has been less than stellar against left-handed hitters this season, and that presents a great opportunity here because Seattle is stacked with lefties. In 79 plate appearances against lefties this season, Jimenez is allowing a .371/.443/.586 line, and has a BB/9 rate of 4.5. Not to mention this game is being played in Camden Yards which is on par with Coors Field and Yankee Stadium when it comes to left-handed park factors. For this particular stack, our system really likes Adam Lind, Seth Smith, Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager. With the exception of Lind, each of these guys has an OPS of greater than .800 against righties this season, and although he's been struggling a bit this year, Lind has a career OPS of greater than .850 against righties. Keep an eye on the weather in this one, but if it's clear this is a pretty affordable stack given the lower price tags on Lind and Smith.

Chicago Cubs vs. Chase Anderson(Brewers)

If you want to use this stack it's going to cost you quite a bit, but if you can find some value pitching it could be completely worth it. Let's start with Chase Anderson, who has been slightly better than his 6.11 ERA might suggest, but still holds an xFIP of 4.68 (certainly nothing to brag about). Oddly enough he's been a reverse splits kind of guy this year, and is getting absolutely crushed by right-handed hitters to the tune of a .367/.400/.693 line and has given up 6 home runs in just 95 plate appearances versus righties (9 total on the season). Like Pelfrey before him, Anderson struggles even more at home, where his ERA jumps to 7.43 on the season (Milwaukee is an above average hitters park). Now to speak on the Cubs, and there's a number of different ways you can go with this one. I'd say that Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are must plays if you're looking to stack, but then you can go expensive and grab guys like Zobrist and Fowler, or you can go cheaper with guys like Baez and Soler. There's really no wrong answer when it comes to this stack, but if you want to roster a big arm (and tonight has plenty of them), I would lean toward going cheaper.

Another stack you can consider is the Red Sox vs. the wildly inconsistent Yordano Ventura, although Red Sox bats are very expensive right now. Our system also like a St. Louis Cardinals stack against Chad Bettis, but I'm not entirely sure I trust the Cardinals offense just yet.

So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.
