Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Cincinnati Reds vs. Matt Garza (Brewers)
Park - Great American Ballpark

The Reds are in a great spot and at the time of writing this(3:00 am et) come in with the 2nd highest projected run total on the slate. They get a juicy matchup vs. Matt Garza who is trying to make a comeback but unfortunately it isn't going as he planned. In five starts since coming back June 14th he has pitched to a 5.54 ERA and 5.15 xFIP and has given up four or more earned runs in three straight starts. He strikes out just over 5.5 batters per nine innings while his walk rate(3.12) is pretty bad. Left handed batters have enjoyed the most success with a .426 wOBA against Garza so I will be targeting Joey Votto and Jay Bruce as my core with Adam Duvall who hits for a ton of power vs. right handed pitching.

New York Mets vs. Jeremy Hellickson (Phillies)
Park - Citizens Bank Park

Despite the park not being very favorable today the Mets currently sit with the 3rd highest projected total(4.72). They will be matching up against the Phillies and Jeremy Hellickson tonight who had a so so first half. The ERA and xFIP both sit around 3.90 but there have been times where he has been hit extremely hard which explains the career high 15% HR/FB rate. The biggest inconsistency for Hellickson is his control. When he starts walking batters is when he gets burned like most pitchers. The Mets currently sit 28th in total runs scored and 21st in wOBA vs. right handed pitching but rank 8th in ISO and could be an extremely low owned stack tonight. Perfect if you are trying to be contrarian tonight.

Also Consider - New York Yankees vs. Steven Wright (Red Sox)

  • I like Cincy tonight 2. Garza started out decent, but's been getting hit hard lately. I also like LAA as super sneaky tonite. They've been hitting very well, I think they'll super low owned.
