Pitching Targets

Gerrit Cole FD 9000 DK 7700
Opponent - PHI (Hellickson) Park - @PHI
FD - 31.97 DK - 21.08

Gerrit Cole is going to start us off here in the secondary pitchers article. We touched on both Carlos Carrasco and Jeff Samardzija in the main picks article, and they are our favorite guys in cash games. I will now touch on a couple of guys that you can consider for your tournament rosters. Gerrit Cole is going to be the first guy we look at. He will be taking on the Philadelphia Phillies, who are easily one of the worst offenses in the league. Against righties, the Phillies have sported a putrid .296 wOBA so far in 2016. Alongside the putrid wOBA, they have struck out a ton and hit the ball very softly. Cole on the other hand, has been terrific against righties with a .287 wOBA that is backed up by every peripherals and batted ball rate you can think of. While I definitely prefer Carrasco and Samardjiza, Cole comes in a close 3rd and I am a fan of him in both tournaments and cash games. Cole is a rare player that is actually cheaper on FanDuel, so I would definitely take advantage of that and play him over on DK.

Anthony DeSclafani FD 8600 DK 10400
Opponent - MIL (Peralta) Park - @CIN
FD - 31.94 DK - 20.39

Yikes. After the top 3 guys, the pickings are slim. I expect some very high ownership out of Carrasco, Samardzija and Gerrit Cole, and therefore want to find someone to pivot on in tournaments. That guy for me is Anthony DeSclafani. Hear me out. The Brewers lineup is made up of nearly all right handers. Right handers cannot hit DeSclafani AT ALL. DeSclafani has elite numbers against right handers. So far in 2016, he has sported a .251 wOBA that is backed up by a 7.7% HR/FB rate and a 31% hard contact rate. While the ballpark is far from optimal, it won't matter if the Brewers cant hit the ball. ALl of that being said, there is definitely some risk as well. He is pretty expensive on both sites and while he has upside, its a tough price to pay. In tournaments, go for it.

  • Sigh. I do not use your picks much cause you have no idea who is even pitching. Anthony DeSclafani? Really? Maybe check and see it is Keyvius Sampson but yeah you post these early and never update.

  • Yeah, I stopped using advice here a couple of months ago and have had much, much better success on my own. I check it out to see if there is anyone grossly underpriced I may have missed and to comment to actually help others. I can't believe people actually pay $$ here for some sort of optimizer.
