Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 1/22/17

Welcome back daily fantasy hockey fans and DFSR junkies. We have another split slate on Sunday with two games(NYR vs DET, BOS vs PIT) in the early afternoon followed by another four starting at 5:00 p.m. ET tonight. Looking at the two sites, FanDuel has their "All Day" slate while Draftkings only offer an "Early" slate or "Main" slate today. Let's get started.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIES

Marc-Andre Fleury FD - $8700 DK - $8300
Opponent - BOS
Proj Pts FD - 21.09 DK - 5.27

The Penguins come in as the biggest favorite(-150) on the early slate and one of the biggest of the entire day. With Murra having made three straight starts, it should be Fleury back between the pipes today to face te struggling Bruins. Fleury has not been on top of his game lately losing two straight after his five-game win streak was snapped but he has been elite at home this season.  In 14 starts on home ice Fleury has an 11-2-1 record with .924 save % and two shutouts. He is fine in cash games in an early slate scenario but I would reserve for GPP if you are playing an All Day contest.

Corey Crawford FD - $9000 DK - $8100
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 18.4 DK - 4.6
Scott Darling FD -
$8600 DK - $8000
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 18.8 DK - 4.7

It's too early for goalie confirmations so I list both options as the Blackhawks are in a great spot tonight as big home favorites(-210) to the visiting Canucks. Crawford has struggled lately giving up three or more goals in five of his last six starts so it very well could be the red hot Scott Darling tonight. He is coming off a 30 save shutout of the Bruins and has only allowed two goals in his last 74 shots against. Darling has also been very impressive at home with a 7-2-1 record and elite .938 save % with a shutout.

CENTERS

Evgeni Malkin FD - $8800 DK - $7300
Opponent - BOS
Proj Pts FD - 17.03 DK - 4.87

You just can't fade the Penguins right now as they have scored 19 goals in their last three games. Being in the early slate, I recommend Malkin over Crosby for the savings but would definitely consider Crosby for GPP if you are playing the All Day slate on FanDuel. Malkin has also been a bit more productive lately wit points in six straight and 13 points over his last 10 games played with 30 shots on goal. Stacking his line is also an affordable option for GPP's as Guentzel comes at punt prices on both sites.

Stack With: Jake Guentzel, Patric Hornqvist

John Tavares FD - $8400 DK - $6900
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 17.04 DK - 5.36

Tavares has been an absolute beast lately with nine goals and three assists in his last 10 games. That includes three powerplay points and a short-handed goal with a very safe 35 shots on goal. The offense has most definitely not been the issue on the Island as they rank #8 in the entire league and it has everything to do with their superstar. He will also get to pick on the Flyers defense today who is ranked 21st and have given up 23 goals over their last five games played. Gross!

Stack with: Anders Lee, Josh Bailey

Jonathan Toews FD - $7000 DK - $5800
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 11.22 DK - 3.42

I can't 100% get behind Toews on FaDuel with a $7K price tag but can definitely stomach a  sub $6K price on DraftKings in a great matchup. The Blackhawks are projected for right around three goals today as the Canucks come to the United Center with their league-worst road record(5-13-3) and middling 16th ranked defense. The reason I lean Toews over Anisimov in the same range at the position on both sites is the shot volume.

Stack with: Ryan Hartman, Richard Panik

WINGERS

Chris Kreider FD - $6900 DK - $6500
Opponent - DET
Proj Pts FD - 13.52 DK - 4.08

For the early slate games, I love targeting the Rangers #2 overall offense going up against the Red Wings and their 23rd ranked defense. The top line has carried the offense this season as Zucs, Stepan and Kreider sit 1, 2 and 4 in Rangers scoring with 34+ points each. Kreider has scored seven goals and added three assists over his last 10 games and also provides a high floor averaging over three shots on goal.

Stack with: Derek Stepan, Mats Zuccarello

Mikael Granlund FD - $6500 DK - $5700
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 12.14 DK - 3.67

Although it's Sunday and NFL football will take center stage, there is an awesome opportunity in DFS NHL today with four of the Top 5 offenses in action. The Wild are one of those teams, ranked #3 and get a home matchup tonight vs. the Predators. the matchup is a slam dunk as the Preds rank 11th in defense and have won two straight but the value of the Wild's second line is just too much to pass up. All three players remain under $6K on DraftKings and are easily the top PTS/$ on that site. Granlund is also a great option on his own for cash games as he has tallied 11 points in his last 10 games with 28 shots on goal.

Stack with: Jason Zucker, Mikko Koivu

DEFENSEMEN

Justin Schultz FD - $5700 DK - $5300
Opponent - BOS
Proj Pts FD - 11.95 DK - 3.62

Like I mentioned yesterday with Sekera, there are going to be players that keep showing up in the article due to their value and lack of movement in their salaries. Enter Justin Schutz who remains in the mid $5K range on both sites despite the very productive season he is having for the Penguins. With 11 points in his last 10 games, he now has 32 points in 45 games with a third of those points coming on the top powerplay unit. Lock and load on the Early Slate or All Day slate.

Ivan Provorov FD - $4600 DK - $4700
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 11.04 DK - 3.26

Digging even deeper for value, I will once again rely on the young Flyers D-man IvanProvorov. He will continue to rank high from a PTS/$ perspective as long as his price stays under $5K as he contributes to our fantasy lineups in a number of ways. He has taken a big step forward earning himself more ice time which has reached 22+minutes per game. There is definitely offensive upside with five points in his last 10 games but what makes him safe in all formats is his shot blocking and shot volume.

Also Consider: Niklas Hjalmarson(CHI)
