Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/6/17

Hello, hockey fans and welcome to a tiny three-game slate in the NHL world. There are some high scoring games expected today and none of the teams are playing in back-to-back games. Let's get started.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and is something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIES

Cory Schneider FD - $8300 DK - $7600
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 16.67 DK - 4.17

Most tiny slates are suited for GPP's only and today is definitely no exception. You will not see me write the word safe today, which is rare for me because I'm mainly a cash game player. But I've also had experience with a GPP or two before. Let's start off with my favorite goalie for today's slate. Schneider has won two of his last three starts. Last time out, he stopped 31 out of 32 shots in Columbus en-route to a 5-1 victory for the Devils. New Jersey scored five goals in one game? Oh my goodness! The Sabres are actually a much better offensive team on the road, as they rank 15th in the league in goals scored. Schneider is still a good goalie, he just plays on a below average team. I'm looking for him to shut the door on the Sabres this evening and I believe that he is our best bet for a win and possibly a shutout.

CENTERS

John Tavares FD - $8300 DK - $7600
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 19.17 DK - 5.5

Auston Matthews is going to be very popular tonight and with good reason. The Leafs have been scoring a ton of goals lately, but they've also been letting in goals like nobody's business. The Leafs also spread their ice time out fairly evenly throughout their top three lines, so it can be painful at times from a DFS perspective. The Islanders don't do that. They have one good line and it is lead by none other than their captain Johnny T. Toronto has allowed 16 goals in their last three games. Yikes! That's just over five goals per game. I can see Tavares being fairly lowly owned tonight because he put up a dud in his last game. Before that, he was on a four-game point streak, where he had a goal, six assists and 14 shots on goal. He is due to go off at any time and has hat-trick upside tonight. He makes a great play stacked with his line-mates, who also play on the #1 PP with him. Lock and load Johnny T.

Tyler Bozak FD - $5700 DK - $4700
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 11.48 DK - 3.44

Like I said above, Matthews will be popular because he is good, but we need to go contrarian if we are going to win a big tourney today. It's actually Bozak who centers the top line in Toronto and he is under-rated. He skates with James Van Riemsdyk at even strength and on the power-play. That itself has upside written all over it. This is a very streaky line and it looks like they are at the start of what could be a blazing hot streak. In the Leafs' 6-5 victory against Boston last game, this line combined for two goals, an assist and eight shots on goal. This should be a very high scoring game tonight as both of these teams have been struggling from a defensive standpoint. The Islanders are ranked 22nd in the league on defense and they've given up five goals in each of their last two games to Carolina and Detroit respectively. Oh my, this could be a game to find a way to tune into. This entire line will go under the radar tonight and Bozak is due for a huge game, so strongly consider him for your tourney lineups.

Stack with: James Van Riemsdyk, Mitch Marner

WINGERS

Jakub Voracek FD - $6700 DK - $6500
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 13.36 DK - 4.25

Vladimir Tarasenko is going to be very popular tonight, but I'm looking elsewhere and it starts with Voracek. The Flyers have been shutting the door on opposing teams on home ice lately, as they've allowed only two goals in regulation time in their last three games in the "City of Brotherly Love." The Blues, on the other hand, have been a complete mess on defense for a while now and they have serious goalie issues. They have allowed 15 goals in their last four games and are now ranked 26th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.10) So much for the Blues defense being scary. Voracek has been held pointless in his last two games, but he fired nine shots on goal during that time. He plays on the top line and #1 PP unit in Philly, so he is a great play in GPP's today.

Stack with: Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds (PP)

Kyle Palmieri FD - $6100 DK - $4700
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 11.77 DK - 3.72

This guy is quickly becoming a DFSR favorite and if he keeps rewarding us with fantasy goodness, then you will see him here often. Any time you see a guy playing alongside Taylor Hall, you should automatically take notice. Palmieri isn't near as popular, so he should fly under the radar today and he has been as good, or maybe even better than Hall lately. This has actually been one of the hottest duos in the NHL in the last few games. You can argue with me, but stats do not lie. Palmieri has three goals (1pp,) one assist and 11 shots on goal in his last three games. Enough said. Get Palmieri into your lineups today.

Stack with: Taylor Hall, Adam Henrique (PP)

Also Consider: Alex Steen (Stl)

DEFENSEMEN

Nick Leddy FD - $5100 DK - $5000
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 8.82 DK - 2.87

Defense is very tough today so I'm looking at a couple of guys who log a ton of ice time and play on their team's top power-play unit. Here we have Leddy, who has averaged nearly 24 minutes of ice time in his last three games. He hasn't had a point in his three games, but he still fired seven shots on goal in those games. In the four games before that, he had a goal and five assists (2pp.) He plays on the #1 PP unit with Tavares and company, so he has massive upside today versus a leaky Maple Leafs squad.

Mark Streit FD - $4300 DK - $3900
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 7.81 DK - 2.51

Shayne Gostisbehere is in the dog house in Philly and has been a healthy scratch for a couple games and even if he comes back today, I still bet that Streit stays on the #1 power-play unit. Streit has always been a power-play specialist and he has a power-play assist, four shots and seven blocks in his last three games. It's pick on St. Louis day today and Streit has massive upside while playing alongside some very talented players.
