Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 3/7/17

Welcome back daily fantasy hockey fans. We have another big night on tap with nine games on the schedule including six of the Top 10 offenses and eight of the bottom 10 defenses. The New York Rangers are the only team playing a back to back early in the week but five teams(NJ, CBJ, NYR, BUF, COL, VAN) are playing their third game in four nights. Let's dive in and take a look at some of the top plays from the projection system.

GOALIES

Sergei Bobrovsky FD - $8800 DK - $8400
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 18.89 DK - 4.72

Easily the top choice between the pipes tonight as the Blue Jackets are the biggest favorites(-250) of the night. Their fourth-ranked offense and second-ranked defense will be at home to the struggling New Jersey Devils who have lost seven straight games while scoring just 13 goals(1.85 per game). On top of that, Bobrovsky is coming off back to back shutouts while facing 58 shots in those two games bringing his season record up to 34-13-4 with an impressive .926 save percentage. I can see the merit of fading him in GPP's because of the high ownership but for cash games, he is by far the safest option tonight.

James Reimer FD - $8100 DK - $7400
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 15.99 DK - 4

I was about to slot the great Carey Price in the #2 slot tonight but due to the obvious nature of that play, I have decided to dig a little deeper. James Reimer took over for Luongo after he got injured last Thursday and has been red hot for the Panthers. He lost that game in overtime and also lost his last start vs. the Stars but has stopped 67 of 70 shots(.957 save%) in those five periods. He makes an excellent potential low-owned GPP play tonight as the matchup isn't appealing but consider that the Rangers are playing back to back on the road and also a third game in four nights.

Also Consider: Carey Price(MTL)

CENTERS

*Note - Connor McDavid is an elite play at home tonight but is much more pricey than some of other top options. Let's take a look at some of the top PTS/$ plays*

Jack Eichel FD - $7500 DK - $7500
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 15.73 DK - 5.27
Ryan O'Reilly FD -
$6400 DK - $6100
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 12.78 DK - 4.32

I am playing the opposite of homer tonight and stacking Sabres against my favorite team. I am a fan but I am also a realist and get that the Flyers defense has been very disappointing this season(24th) and even worse on the road where they have one of the worst road records in the Eastern Conference(11-16-4). From a cash game perspective, I would roll with O'Reilly due to the big discount which allows you to build a much more balanced lineup. He has tallied nine points(four on the powerplay) over his 10 games with 31 shots on goal. Eichel, on the other hand, is still safe in all formats, you just have to be more creative with a few extra value plays. He is an elite player who has tallied points in 10 straight games(13 points total) with a whopping 45 shots on goal. Stack these guys together to get exposure to both of the Sabres top lines and top powerplay unit.

Stack with: Sam Reinhart, Evander Kane

Auston Matthews FD - $7400 DK - $7400
Opponent - DET
Proj Pts FD - 15.58 DK - 4.79

If you are not playing McDavid or the Sabres centers, you best consider Auston Matthews tonight. He is in a very exciting Calder Trophy race with Patrik Laine but most people are leaning Matthews due to the position. A center has a ton more responsibility defensively which makes it much harder to be a top two-way player. While Matthews carries just a +3 rating into tonight's game, he has been electric offensively with 32 goals and 56 points. He is coming off back to back games where he was held without a point but has elite shot volume with 42 shots over his last 10 games with six goals and 11 points. He is safe in all formats.

Stack with: Connor Brown, William Nylander(PP)

WINGERS

Filip Forsberg FD - $7600 DK - $6700
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 15.28 DK - 4.53

While he has cooled down a bit since his back to back hat tricks, he continues to provide elite shot volume and is coming off a seven-shot, one assist game vs. the Blackhawks. The hot streak helped bring his price near its ceiling which makes him a tough play in cash games with so many other options in much better spots. What he will provide is huge multi-point upside at very low ownership which cane asily win you a big tournament.

Stack with: Viktor Arvidsson, Ryan Johansen

Patrick Eaves FD - $5300 DK - $5500
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 11.09 DK - 3.45

Eaves is the newest member of the Ducks via trade and jumped right into the mix on the second line with Ryan Getzlaf. He didn't record a point in his first game but has now gone two straight games with a goal for the Ducks. He has also provided a very high floor with 12 shots on goal in his first three games with the team.  He is safe in all formats.

Stack with: Ryan Getzlaf, Ondrej Kase

Boone Jenner FD - $4800 DK - $4900
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 10.29 DK - 3.13

Dipping down even lower we find one of the top PTS/$ plays of the night. Jenner is playing on the top line with Cam Atkinson and Brandon Dubinsky and comes with a discounted price under $5K on both sites. The price isn't the only thing that stands out. He is averaging just over 2.5 shots per game but has seen a huge increase lately as he has tallied 38 shots on goal in his last 10 games. Then there is the matchup vs. the Devils who have lost seven straight. Load up on the Jackets tonight and use Jenner as a high floor salary relief option.

Stack with: Brandon Dubinsky, Cam Atkinson

DEFENSEMEN
Zachary Werenski FD - $5100 DK - $5100
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 10.64 DK - 3.46

As you can tell by now, I will be heavily picking on the New Jersey Devils tonight. It makes sense as they have been one of the worst teams in the league outside of the Colorado Avalanche who have locked up that narrative. Werenski is having an excellent rookie season, leading all D-men with 39 points and all rookies with an elite +17 rating. For safety, he has also seen a huge uptick in shot volume lately with 38 shots on goal over his previous 10 games.

Radko Gudas FD - $3600 DK - $3300
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 8.82 DK - 2.61

I know what your thinking. Before labeling me crazy(most of you probably already have) hear me out. He comes at near minimum price which puts him right near the top of the PTS/$ rankings tonight. He skates just over 18 minutes a game and while he doesn't provide much in terms of offensive upside, he does offer a safe floor with shots and blocks. At min price, provides a huge source of salary relief to get those top players in your lineup.

Also Consider: Rasmus Ristolainen(BUF)
