Pitchers

Early Slate

Robert Stephenson FD 6500 DK 6700
Opponent - NYM (deGrom) Park - @CIN
FD - 25.26 DK - 12.45

When analyzing the early slate and determining the chalk it is clear that deGrom is that guy today, especially on FanDuel where they left out the Dodgers and Diamondbacks game. If you want to go a bit contrarian in GPP's and load up on bats in good matchups consider former first round pick Robert Stephenson. It is risky going up against the top pitcher on the slate as an underdog but if you are trying to separate yourself this is the way to do it. If deGrom struggles or even just puts up a subpar performance(for him) and Stephenson gets 5+ strikeouts you will be a step ahead of your opponents. Stephenson is more than capable of this with a 9.4 K/9 rate which is backed up by an 11.8% swinging strike rate. He is also coming off a career high 11 strikeout game in his last start vs. the Pirates. His only issue is the enormous walk rate(5.98 BB/9) but he is more than capable of limiting that number today as the Mets sit in the bottom half of the league in team walk rate. On a small slate, it is worth the risk as the reward could be huge.

Main Slate

Kyle Hendricks FD 8500 DK 10800
Opponent - ATL (Newcomb) Park - @CHC
FD - 33.83 DK - 17.45

On the main slate, we have Kyle Hendricks who sits third in salary today behind Madison Bumgarner and Gio Gonzalez while the Cubs are by far the largest favorite(-215) on the entire day. He doesn't have elite strikeout upside(7.88 K/9) but has been a very consistent option for both the Cubs and for fantasy. He has held opponents to three earned runs or less in 14 of his 18 starts this season and two or less 11 times. Then there is the matchup vs. the Braves who rank in the bottom third when looking at wOBA, wRC+, and ISO vs. right-handed pitching. Sign me up in cash games.
