Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 10/31/17

Happy Halloween everyone and welcome to another day of NHL action here at DFSR. We have a tiny three-game slate today, but it's been an exciting year so far and look for that to continue. Let's get started with some picks.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Jimmy Howard FD - $8000 DK - $8200
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 17.98 DK - 4.5

We know our options are thin when a Red-Wings goalie is the best of the bunch. Well, it's a tiny slate and I'm actually rather comfortable rostering this wily veteran today. His opponent, the Arizona Coyotes are ranked 26th in the league with 2.50 goals scored per game and they have an awful record of 1-10-1. They actually earned their first victory last night in overtime, but to expect back-to-back road victories on consecutive nights is probably not a good idea. Howard had a fantastic outing last time out as he stopped 44 of 46 shots in a victory against the Panthers and he has only given up more than three goals in one out of nine starts. The Red Wings are listed as -185 favorites today and Howard is easily my top goalie play in every single format.

CENTERS

Mika Zibanejad FD - $7200 DK - $6700
Opponent - VEG
Proj Pts FD - 13.97 DK - 4.12

This young man is easily the Rangers' best center and he skates on the #1 line and the #1 PP unit. He has two goals, two assists and 10 shots on goal in his last three games and tonight it looks like Vegas will have their emergency fourth-string goalie between the pipes. His name is Maxime Lagace and he was awful in the minors and in his NHL debut last night, he gave up four goals on 11 shots. Fire Zibanejad up in cash games and make sure you stack him with his line-mates in your tournament lineups.

Stack with: Rick Nash, J.T. Miller

Mikko Koivu FD - $5600 DK - $5200
Opponent - WPG
Proj Pts FD - 11.11 DK - 3.16

Saku's little brother always flies under the radar because he normally doesn't shoot the puck much, but with all of the injuries to the Wild things have changed recently. He is a good hockey player and he has a goal and 10 shots in his last two games while averaging 20 minutes of ice-time per game and he has been playing on the #1 line and the #1 PP unit for the Wild. The Jets are tied for 20th in goals allowed per game (3.10) and when these two teams met four games ago, there were seven total goals scored. Koivu is a solid play in all formats this evening my friends.

Stack with: Jason Zucker, Mikael Granlund

WINGERS

Blake Wheeler FD - $7400 DK - $7100
Opponent - MIN
Proj Pts FD - 13.53 DK - 3.98

The veteran American winger is exciting to watch as he hustles up and down the ice each and every shift. He scored a hat-trick and added an assist last game against the Penguins and he has a whopping 20 shots on goal in his last four games. In his last game against the Wild, Wheeler scored a goal on seven shots and added an assist, so he obviously loves playing against Minnesota. He plays on the #1 line and the #1 PP unit and he is my top overall player at any position today, so fire him up with a ton of confidence in all formats.

Stack with: Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor

Gustav Nyquist FD - $5400 DK - $5200
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 9.36 DK - 2.7

I feel that we needed exposure to the Red Wings offense today because the Coyotes give up a league-worst 4.25 goals per game. Wow! That stinks. Detroit's offense isn't good as they're tied for 25th offensively, but their top line does score goals now and then. Nyquist skates on the top line and the top PP unit for the Wings and he scored a goal on seven shots last game and he has a goal, two assists and 14 shots on goal in his last four games. If you're playing cash games today, I supposed that you can give him a look, but where I like him is in GPP formats stacked with his line-mates.

Stack with: Henrik Zetterberg, Tomas Tatar

Also Consider: Jonathan Marchessault (VEG)

DEFENSEMEN

Jared Spurgeon FD - $5100 DK - $4900
Opponent - WPG
Proj Pts FD - 11.72 DK - 3.43

There is very little value near the bottom today, but there aren't any real expensive players at other positions. Spurgeon has been a workhorse for the Wild so far this season and he has a goal, four assists, eight shots and seven blocks in his last four games. He plays on the #1 PP unit and he is a solid play in all formats.

Colin Miller FD - $4200 DK - $3700
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 9.24 DK - 2.88

The former Bruin has had a chance to prove his worth for this brand new Vegas squad and he's been playing some good hockey this season. The 25-year-old defenseman is on a five-game point streak with two goals, five assists, nine shots and two blocks during those five games. At these prices, Miller is a solid play in all formats.
