Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/5/18

Hello hockey fans and welcome to another day of NHL action. Today, we have a cozy four-game slate on tap for us with none of the teams in a back-to-back scenario, so everyone should be well rested and ready to go. Let's get started with some picks, shall we?

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Ben Bishop FD - $8900 DK - $8300
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 14.69 DK - 3.67

Let's start the small but eventful slate off with the veteran American tender, who is much better when playing on home ice as he is an impressive 16-7-1 to go along with three shutouts, a 2.10 GAA, and a .931 save %. The Rangers are ranked average offensively, but they have lost five of their last six games, while the Stars are tied for fourth-best in defense with only 2.30 goals allowed per game and have allowed only one goal in each of their last two. The Stars are listed as -190 favorites and with all of these things considered, Bishop is an elite play and my top goalie in all formats.

Also Consider: Frederik Anderson(TOR) All formats, Andrei Vasilevskiy(TB) GPP formats

CENTERS

Tyler Seguin FD - $8000 DK - $7300
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 15.56 DK - 4.62

Similar to Bishop, Seguin is also much better at home as he's tallied 31 of his 47 points and boasts an elite 4.4 shot per game average while playing in the comforts of Dallas. The superstar Canadian center recorded a goal, two assists, and four shots last game and the Rangers are ranked fifth-worst defensively on the road, so look for another huge performance from Seguin making him my top overall play at any position and an elite play in all formats.

Stack with: Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov

Brayden Point FD - $6200 DK - $6100
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 10.17 DK - 2.93

It isn't common for a team to be worse defensively at home than they are on the road, but the Oilers are one of those teams this year as they rank 31st in defense while allowing 3.54 goals per game, so we need to pick on them a bit tonight and no better spot than with the league's #1 offense. The sophomore center is having a solid year so far as he has 46 points in 52 games while playing on the #2 line and #2 or #1 powerplay units. Point had a goal, and two assists in three games before last game and he has 17 shots in his last five, which warrants him a solid play in all formats.

Stack with: Tyler Johnson, Chris Kunitz

Also Consider: Connor McDavid(EDM) GPP formats only.

WINGERS

Nikita Kucherov FD - $8500 DK - $7600
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 15.81 DK - 4.68

Let's keep on rolling with the superstar Russian winger, who recorded two assists last game after being held pointless for two straight. Kucherov is still leading the league in points with 66, third in goals with 27, and he has an above average shot per game average(3.4) giving him a high floor. He plays on the deadly #1 line for the Lightning, which is a separate line than Point plays on, so rostering both players in cash games and stacking each guy with their line-mates in GPP's feels like a great option today against a brutal Oilers defense.

Stack with: Steven Stamkos, Vladimir Namestnikov

Viktor Arvidsson FD - $6500 DK - $6400
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 13.72 DK - 4.03

Kevin Fiala FD - $4400 DK - $5700
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 7.03 DK - 2.09

Picking on bad defenses is a great strategy in NHL DFS and here we have two guys who are about to play the Islanders, who are ranked 31st in the league in total defense with 3.60 goals allowed per game. Arvidsson has two goals, an assist and five shots in his last two games and has points in four of his last five while averaging three shots per game this season. Fiala, on the other hand, has 33 points in 49 games, two goals, an assist, five shots, and two blocks in his last two, and has averaged three shots per game in his last 10. I like the same strategy here as I mentioned with Kucherov and Point and both Fiala and Arvidsson are great plays in all formats.

Stack Arvidsson with: Ryan Johansen

Stack Fiala with: Craig Smith, Kyle Turris

Also Consider: Rickard Rakell(ANA)

DEFENSEMEN

P.K. Subban FD - $5800 DK - $5700
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 11.76 DK - 3.58

Let's continue to pick on the Islanders and their league-worst defense with the veteran blue-liner, who has 40 points in 50 games this season, which would be impressive even for a forward. Subban has two goals, an assist, 11 shots, and three blocks in his last three games and he looks dialed in right now, so lock him and load him in all formats my friends.

Stephen Johns FD - $4000 DK - $3300
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 10.31 DK - 2.95

This guy isn't flashy and he probably won't score a hat-trick or record five assists in one game in the near future, but hey, he scored a goal last game to go along with three shots and two blocks. Where he has excelled lately has been in the safety department as he has 16 blocks and 11 shots in his last five games, so we could do much worse than Johns in our cash game lineups for this small slate.

Also Consider: John Klingberg(DAL) All formats, Kris Russell(EDM) Cash game formats only.
