Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/8/18

Welcome back hockey fans. Tonight we have a big nine-game slate that has just one team(NSH) playing on a back to back and we also get six of the bottom 10 defenses so it should be another high scoring evening of hockey. Let's jump in and take a look at some of the top plays at each position.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. GOALIE

Devan Dubnyk FD - $8700 DK - $8500
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 14.41 DK - 3.6

There are two home goalies in terrific situations tonight and I will start with Dubnyk who has been really solid lately. He comes in winning six of his last eight starts while holding his opponent to two goals or fewer in all six wins. I have talked about the Wild splits all season how they go from a 30th ranked defense on the road to a 1st ranked defense on home ice and Dubnyk has benefited with a 13-2-3 record with an elite .930 save % and one shutout. Tonight he gets a great opportunity to add to those home numbers as the Wild are huge -230 favorites as the Coyotes and their 29th ranked road offense coem to town. Fire up Dubnyk in all formats.

Andrei Vasilevskiy FD - $9200 DK - $8400
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 13.15 DK - 3.29

I prefer Dubnyk in cash games as he has been much more consistent lately but think Vasilevskiy makes a nice GPP target on home ice tonight. There is a chance his ownership will be down a bit considering he has given up 4+ goals in five of his last 10 starts but don't worry as he still has a ton of upside leading the league in wins(31) and sits Top 5 in both GAA(2.28) and save %(.929). To top it off, he and the Lightning are the biggest favorites on the slate(-250) facing a Canucks team that ranks 25th offensively.

Also Consider: Brian Elliot(PHI) in GPP formats

CENTERS

Tyler Seguin FD - $8000 DK - $7400
Opponent - CHI
Proj Pts FD - 15.51 DK - 4.6

I normally try and stay away from Seguin when the Stars are on the road as he hasn't been quite as consistent but everything lines tonight. He has been red-hot in February with goals in three straight games(five total points) and now has 26 on the season to go along with 22 assists. While the matchup vs. the Blackhawks 12th ranked defense looks like a downgrade on paper, they have been struggling lately losing three straight(11 goals against) and seven of their last nine games. Fire up Seguin in all formats.

Stack with: Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov

Jack Eichel FD - $8000 DK - $7300
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 14.89 DK - 4.3
Ryan O'Reilly FD - $6000
DK - $5300
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 12.53 DK - 3.66

The center position is loaded at the top so it is definitely a night where we want two of them in our lineups in all formats. Eichel fits the bill as he not only provides safety for cash games but has huge upside. Before his two-point last time out, he went through a four-game pointless streak but still has 16 points over his last 12 games with a whopping 56 shots on goal(4.7 per game). What is most impressive is that he has been thriving offensively and having his best season as a pro despite the lack of a surrounding cast and tonight gets an elite matchup vs. the league's worst defense.

For value, I also like Ryan O'Reilly who comes at a big discount, gets the same matchup vs. a brutal Islanders defense, and skates with Eichel on the top powerplay unit. He has also been very consistent lately with nine points over his last 10 games to go with 31 shots on goal. Both centers are in play in all formats tonight.

PP Stack with: Kyle Okposo, Sam Reinhart

Also Consider: Brayden Point(TB)

WINGERS

Taylor Hall FD - $8200 DK - $7400
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 17.62 DK - 5.08

It seems like we write up Hall every time the Devils take the ice and it has paid off in a big way this season. He extended his point streak to 11 games on Tuesday and during that streak he has tallied 16 points and a whopping 50 shots on goal giving him not only big upside but also a very high floor. He now has 52 points in 47 games played and sits just outside the Top 10 when looking at points per game(1.11) and while Calgary is in the upper half in league defense, fading Hall would be a mistake right now.

Stack with: Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt

Mikael Granlund FD - $7500 DK - $6200
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 14.08 DK - 4.07

We are definitely going to want some exposure to the Wild tonight as they get a terrific matchup vs. the Coyotes 28th ranked road defense. Speaking of splits, Minnesota has some Wild ones(pun intended) as they go from the 24th ranked road offense to 10th on home ice. Eric Staal leads the team with 48 points but Granlund gets almost a full minute more of ice-time and has been the better player on the powerplay with 16 points. Granlund has also been very consistent lately with points in eight of his last 10 games with 27 shots on goal averaging 4.1 DK/15.4 FD points per game. Roll him out with confidence in all formats.

Stack with: Jason Zucker, Mikko Koivu

Craig Smith FD - $5300 DK - $5600
Opponent - OTT
Proj Pts FD - 11.79 DK - 3.42

I have been all over the Predators second line wingers for value all season but tonight lean Smith as 1. Fiala was apparently sick yesterday and 2. Smith is cheaper on DraftKings where I primarily play each night. He went into last night's game with points in four straight with 15 shots and has six points and 30 shots over his last 10 games. Even on a back to back on the road, I will have shares of Smith in all formats in the mid $5K range and facing a Sens team that ranks 30th defensively on home ice.

Stack with: Kyle Turris, Kevin Fiala

Also Consider: Yanni Gourde(TB) and Travis Konecny(PHI) as value plays

DEFENSEMEN

Ryan Pulock FD - $4000 DK - $4500
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 9.06 DK - 2.79

I am going to go with two value D-men tonight, at least in cash games and it starts with Pulock who has been playing excellent hockey lately. He is skating on the second pairing and #2 powerplay unit in his first full season with the Islanders and has shown some upside lately with points in back to back games and nine over his last 10 games. He has also provided a nice floor(for the price) with nine blocks and nine shots in his last three games.
Joel Edmundson FD -
$3900 DK - $3900
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 10.56 DK - 3.08

Next up is Joel Edmundson who I talked about a ton early in the season due to his shot blocking ability and high floor. He still little to no upside with just one point in his last 10 games and 15 on the season but he once again comes with a sub $4K price tag and has multiple shots and blocks in four straight and six of his last 10 games. The salary relief really helps build a core around multiple high-end players tonight at center and wing.

Also Consider: Jared Spurgeon(MIN)
