Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/28/18

Hello hockey fans and welcome to another day of NHL action here at DFSR. Today, we have a smallish five-game slate in store for us, but as always it should not be short of excitement, so let's get this party started.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Andrei Vasilevskiy FD - $9300 DK - $8500
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 14.43 DK - 3.61

When searching for a goalie, everyone and their ancestors will be all over this guy today, who happens to lead the league with 37 wins and seven shutouts to go along with a respectable .927 save % and a 2.35 GAA. One of the biggest reasons why Vasilevskiy will be very popular is because the Sabres own the league's second-worst offense and they just traded away sniper Evander Kane to the Sharks. The young superstar has won his last four games and he and the Lightning should cruise to an easy victory, so all things considered, he is an elite cash game option and fade him at your own risk(not recommended).

Semyon Varlamov FD - $7900 DK - $8000
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 13.75 DK - 3.23

Because Vasilevskiy will be very highly owned this evening, it is a great idea to look elsewhere in GPP formats and enter Varlamov, who has been money on home-ice this season with a 10-4 record to go along with a stifling .933 save % and a 2.31 GAA. The Flames own the league's eighth-ranked offense on the road and they can score goals in bunches which gives this guy a low floor, but his upside potential is huge at home, so fire him up in your tournament lineups this evening.

CENTERS

Nathan MacKinnon FD - $8300 DK - $7800
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 17.81 DK - 5.1

This superstar is a difficult fade on a full slate, so for a small slate like this, he is a must play for me in all formats with the terrific form he has shown us lately. Mackinnon has an impressive 69 points in only 58 games, three goals and an assist with a whopping 13 shots in his last two and four goals and four assists to go along with 23 shots in his last five. He has a monstrous ceiling to go along with an elite floor, so build your lineups starting with Mackinnon and reap the rewards.

Stack with: Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog

Brayden Point FD - $6500 DK - $6700
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 14.02 DK - 3.97

The Lightning are in a terrific spot this evening as the Sabres and their fourth-worst defense travel to Tampa and this sophomore sensation plays on the #2 line and the lethal #1 powerplay unit. In his last five games, he has five goals and 19 shots while logging just under 24 minutes of ice-time per game. Point also has 54 points in 63 games so from a PTS/$ perspective, he is a great play in all formats.

Stack with: Alex Killorn, Yanni Gourde

WINGERS

Brendan Gallagher FD - $6800 DK - $5800
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 12.86 DK - 3.75

Hey everyone, guess what? The Islanders and their league-worst defense are in action this evening, so let's pick on them a little bit and for me, it starts with Gallagher, who averages 3.37 shots on goal to give him an elite floor and he has 21 goals for the Canadiens so far this season. Also, he plays on the #1 powerplay unit which adds upside to go along with the safety that he offers, so rostering Gallagher in all formats is a great idea on this small slate against the Isles and their brutal defense.

PP Stack with: Max Pacioretty, Alex Galchenyuk

Jordan Eberle FD - $5800 DK - $5200
Opponent - MON
Proj Pts FD - 10.41 DK - 2.98

While the Islanders own the league's worst defense, the Canadiens aren't much better as they own the league's ninth-worst defense and Eberle has heated up recently as he has two goals on seven shots in his last two games. The veteran has 45 points in 63 games and while he isn't safe for cash games with his 2.29 shot per game average, he is a solid GPP play this evening as he plays alongside two talented young players.

Stack with: Mathew Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier

Chris Kunitz FD - $3600 DK - $3600
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 7.75 DK - 2.18

I already mentioned Brayden Point, but this proven veteran plays on a separate line, which happens to be the #1 line alongside Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. That sounds like a cushy job to me and he scored a goal last game to give him two goals and an assist in his last four games. Kunitz rarely shoots the puck as he averages only one shot per game, but with this amazing opportunity mixed with his near minimum prices, he is a terrific GPP play and a solid punt play in cash game formats.

Stack with: Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov

Also Consider: Brock Boeser(VAN)

DEFENSEMEN

Jeff Petry FD - $4800 DK - $5700
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 11.26 DK - 3.35

This guy has been Montreal's top point man since Shea Weber has been injured and he's done a pretty good job, especially recently as he has two goals, two assists, 11 shots, and nine blocks in his last five games while playing on the #1 defensive pairing and the #1 powerplay unit. The Habs should be able to score a few goals this evening, so lock and load Petry in all formats against an awful Islanders defense.

Ryan Pulock FD - $4100 DK - $4400
Opponent - MON
Proj Pts FD - 9.76 DK - 2.87

The former Brandon Wheat King has shown that he belongs in the NHL this season and he has a goal, an assist, 17 shots, and nine blocks in his last three games. This should be a high scoring affair this evening, the total is set at 6.5 goals and Pulock has been impressive recently, so fire him up in all formats against a vulnerable Canadiens defense.

Also Consider: Victor Hedman(TB), Tony DeAngelo(NYR) at different price points.
