Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 3/7/18

Welcome back hockey fans. After a busy night in the NHL last night, we are back with a small three-game slate tonight where no team will be playing a back to back. Let's have a look at a few options to target at each position.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Chad Johnson FD - $7600 DK - $7400
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 16.69 DK - 4.17

This slate has GPP only written all over it so for my top goalie I will be turning to Chad Johnson of the Sabres facing the Flames 11th ranked road offense. He has struggled pretty much all season with a 7-10-3 record and .898 save % but has been playing his best hockey most recently as he has won three straight games against some powerful offenses in Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Boston while giving up just five total goals(.951 save %). More good news as the Flames have been struggling lately losing four straight while scoring just six goals in that span. Even if you can't get away from cash games I would still recommend Johnson tonight. For me, I will be playing more heads to heads than double-ups.

Also Consider: Jacob Markstrom(VAN)

CENTERS

Evgeni Malkin FD - $9100 DK - $7700
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 18.67 DK - 5.43

Even on a three-game slate, there is always a way to fit in a superstar player. Enter Evgeni Malkin who has been lights out lately with 19 points over his last 10 games with 33 shots on goal giving him a very high floor and ceiling. Tonight he gets a matchup vs. the Flyers who were red hot when Mrazek came over in a trade but have cooled off to sub-zero temperatures as they have dropped three straight while giving up 15 goals against. The good news with Malkin is that you can pair him with his linemates who are both in the low-end value range.

Stack with: Bryan Rust, Carl Hagelin

Ryan O'Reilly FD - $6200 DK - $6500
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 13.47 DK - 3.92

If you are looking to go more balanced in your lineups tonight, the Sabres make a great choice and it starts with Ryan O'Reilly. With Jack Eichel on the injured reserve, O'Reilly has stepped up his role and is now centering the top line in Buffalo and has been very consistent and comes in with a four-game point streak and has nine points over his last 10 games(four on the powerplay) with 31 shots on goal while skating over 22 minutes per game.

Stack with: Zemgus Girgensons, Sam Reinhart

WINGERS

Claude Giroux FD - $7700 DK - $7000
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 13.2 DK - 3.93

The Flyers and Penguins tend to play a ton of high-scoring games so targeting a piece of both sides seems to be a wise idea tonight. Enter Claude Giroux who moved to wing at the start of the year and is having one of his best seasons with 78 points in 66 games and is tied for fourth overall with 31 powerplay points. He also comes in red-hot with points in three straight and 14 points over his last 10 games with five multi-point efforts and 32 shots on goal. Play him alone or as a Flyers top line stack which comes with a ton of upside.

Stack with: Sean Couturier, Travis Konecny

Daniel Sedin FD - $6500 DK - $5100
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 12.83 DK - 3.72

I played Daniel and the Canucks in a great matchup last game vs. the Islanders and although he let me down, I will go right back to the well tonight. The Coyotes haven't been quite as bad defensively as the Isles but pretty close as they rank 26th overall and Daniel has been playing terrific lately with eight goals and 13 points(six on the powerplay) over his last 10 games with 26 shots on goal. He value is much higher on DraftKings as he sits in the low $5K range but considering the small slate, he is in play on both sites tonight in an excellent matchup.

PP Stack with: Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Bo Horvat

Also Consider: Matthew Tkachuk(CGY) if you decide not to play Chad Johnson in goal tonight.

DEFENSEMEN

Rasmus Ristolainen FD - $5400 DK - $5500
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 12.37 DK - 3.75

It will be tough to pay all the way up tonight so for my top play on defense, I will turn to Rasmus Ristolainen. He comes with big PTS/$ value as he provides fantasy production in almost every area. Over his last 10 games, he has 23 blocks and 28 shots for a high floor while adding eight points(four on the powerplay) and now has 33 on the season. What makes that more impressive is that he is doing it with a struggling Sabres team that ranks dead last in offense.

Andrew MacDonald FD - $3600 DK - $3000
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 7.94 DK - 2.29

To fit in the top plays I mentioned above on a small slate, we are going to need a punt play and no better spot than on defense. The upside with MacDonald is extremely limited but the good news is that he has recorded multiple blocks in six straight and seven of his last eight games. That is enough for me to consider him a play on this slate, especially on DraftKings at near minimum price.

Also Consider: Shayne Gostisbehere(PHI) if you have room to pay all the way up tonight
