Total Bases

Giancarlo Stanton
I typically want to target him against lefties but today the righty David Buchanan is so weak and the park plays so well for hitters that Stanton takes over the top spot in total bases. It's also a little weird to get away from Coors on a given day when there are viable options. But Citizen's Bank Park plays well above average for righty power and Stanton is Stanton. He's destroying the ball, owns an OPS close to 1K and Buchanan doesn't have the strikeout stuff to get guys out consistently. I would only consider Stanton for my top total bases slot as I want to take care of it in one swing, but man he has supreme upside today.

Miguel Cabrera
Probably didn't need me to make these picks for you today, but alas here you are with some chalk plays across the board. ScoreStreak is a tricky site as the overall best hitters in baseball don't necessarily make the best plays every single day, but Miggy facing Colby Lewis in Arlington is more than enough reason to have him in there. Miggy is platoon neutral though the word "neutral" suggests something different than reality. It should be something more like platoo dominant. He hits lefties and righties equally well, Lewis doesn't have the overpowering stuff to get past Cabrera multiple times through the lineup and the park plays up power to the fences and the alleys.

Hits

Yadier Molina
Molina is a contact hitter, playing in Coors and facing a lefty in de la Rosa making him a great option for total hits today. Obviously, many of the Cardinals make solid options today because of their circumstances. I will be using Molina in one of my hits slots for sure. The only thing that worries me about this pick (he is tops in our system for total hits) is that hitting in the middle of the lineup has him running the risk of not getting that extra at bat near the end of the game. But Molina is tough to strike out (11% on the season) and rarely takes walks which means the bat should be on the ball today.

Alex Rios
As I wrote in our picks column today, Rios crushes lefties with a great contact rate and solid upside against that hand. His splits have become bigger over the years as he appears to have gotten worse against righties and better against lefties. I like his chances of making contact against Smyly today and even could make a case for having him the total bases category as well.

Strikeouts

Fading Kershaw in the top two slots today which feels weird, but the Royals have such a low K rate that I just don't think the upside is there for Clayton.

Scott Kazmir
The Mets are plain bad against lefty pitching, have a terribly weak bottom of the order and Kazmir gets the added bonus of blowing through the pitcher's slot in Bartolo Colon at least once. I think he can reach the 9K plateau today though that number is always a bit of a stretch and he'll have to be super efficient. Kazmir appears to have made some adjustments since last year as he's K'ing less guys but also walking fewer too. That latter piece is what gives him the upside today because he should be able to go later into the game against the Mets who strike out almost 25% of the time against lefties.

Homer Bailey
Another guy I wrote about today. He's been real unlucky this season in both Babip and Hr/FB rate. Today is a solid chance for those numbers to begin regressing against a Cubs team coming in second to last in the league in OPS against right handed pitching. They strike out 22.5% of the time as a team against righties and Bailey's peripherals are just good enough to have me thinking he can reach seven K's today against Chicago.
