Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Clayton Kershaw, Jason Hammel and Junior Guerra in the Main Article. And will be going over a few more options below.

Early Slate

Jeremy Hellickson FD 7300 DK 9300
Opponent - MIL (Guerra) Park - @PHI
FD - 31.89 DK - 16.9

Hellickson has just been outstanding for the Phils this season, and he has been one of the most under-appreciated pitchers this season, so I will go ahead and give him so love.

Hellickson is coming into this contest sporting a 3.68 ERA that is backed up by a 3.38 xFIP. Not sure how good a 3.38 xFIP really is? Let’s just say he’s in-front of Madison Bumgarner, Jose Quintana, Chris Sale and John Lackey in that department. I know he plays for the Phills’ and a 4-3 record isn’t all that impressive, but this kid has been good!

Now let’s talk about his matchup. He will be going up against the Brewers who have had their struggles so far this season. They are coming into this contest sporting a 26.9 K% (first in MLB) and 89 wRC+ (23rd in MLB) against right-handed pitching. They have struggled getting things going offensively against right-handed pitchers, which puts my man, Hellickson, in a great spot. He has huge upside in this matchup and is an excellent play with that has some upside.

Main Slate

Chris Sale FD 11100 DK 12700
Opponent - DET (Pelfrey) Park - @DET
FD - 40.58 DK - 22.69

Chris Sale does not have the best of matchups going up against a righty-heavy lineup in the Tigers, but you got to love Sale's upside every time he steps foot on the mound. He is coming into today's contest sporting a 2.29 ERA that is backed up by a 2.91 FIP. He is one of the most dominant southpaws in the game today, and I won't let a matchup against the Tigers (especially if Miguel Cabrera sits) scare me away.

The reason why Chris Sale has a high ceiling is not only because he owns 30.1 K%, but the Tigers sport a 23.2 K% on the year (7th in MLB). He is one of the best options for tournaments on Fanduel and/or Draftkings if you want to be different and fade Clayton Kershaw.

Stephen Strasburg FD 12000 DK 11900
Opponent - CIN (Straily) Park - @CIN
FD - 40.47 DK - 25.33

This is another great option on today's slate if you are trying to be different and fade Clayton Kershaw. Strasburg will be going up against a Reds' team that is hot, but we all know the things the Stras-inator can do when taking the bump. Similar to Chris Sale, Strasburg possesses a ton of upside. The Reds own a 22.5 K% (8th in MLB), and the Stras-inator is sporting a 30.5 K%. He's been spectacular with a 2.59 FIP and is a great tournament play today as well. It's never easy fading Kershaw, but I'm definitely tempted to do just that with these two guys. Perhaps we go with a Strasburg-Sale combo on Draftkings?
