Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Early Slate

Cincinnati Reds vs. Matt Wisler (Braves)
Park - Turner Field

While there are no pitchers I like on the early slate, there are also no offense(s) that really stick out over the others. However, if I am going to stack a team in this early slate, it is going to be the Cincy Reds. The Reds will be facing off with Matt Wisler, a right handed fireballer that has struggled immensely against left handed hitters. Dating back to his debut in 2015, Wisler has given up a .374 wOBA against lefties that is strongly backed up by a 5.70 xFIP and a 5.28 SIERA. While Wisler's surface stats have definitely improved this season against both righties and lefties, his peripherals have remained the same which suggests impending regression. While the Reds do lack a ton of lefties, they will have at least 3 in there with Votto, Bruce and Barnhart. I would add those 3 with Adam Duvall and Zack Cozart and call it a day. As I previously mentioned, I am not a fan of stacking on this early, however, I will go with the Reds in a few tourneys. I would definitely avoid stacking in cash games for this slate as every team will put up runs.

Other to consider - Athletics

Evening Slate

Boston Red Sox vs. Tyler Wilson (Orioles)
Park - Fenway Park

While the Red Sox are going to be insanely high owned tonight, it is completely righteous. They face off with a right handed soft tosser in Tyler Wilson. Wilson is just a bad pitcher as evidenced by nearly every stat. Against righties, Wilson has held a 5.17 xFIP, a 32% hard contact rate allowed and a 7.1% HR/FB rate. Against lefties however, he has been worse. Dating back to his debut in 2015, he has sported a ridiculously bad 3.31 K/9 and 5.01 SIERA. The Red Sox are going to absolutely obliterate this young fella and I doubt he reaches the 5th inning. Once we get to the bullpen, things stay groovy. Collectively, the Orioles bullpen has exhibited the league's 8th worse SIERA of 3.92 and with a LOB (left on base) of 82%, things are going to get a lot worse. The Red Sox have been the best offense in the league thus far and a match up with one of the worst pitchers in the league will not phase them. My 5 favorite Sox bats are going to be Mookie Betts, David Ortiz, Xander Bogaerts, Dustin Pedroia and Jackie Bradley Jr. Those 5 guys are all very conducive to team success and have individual upside as well. The Sox will be chalk and chalk is going to taste really good.

Others to consider - Orioles, Yankees

  • The Yankees look like the best stack although they aren't the most explosive team but the best yankees players are the lefties and that is exactly where Gibson struggles with a scary bad .366 BAA in a semi small but notable sample - He wont give up loads of HRs but he could get hit quite hard in this game - anothere problem for Gibson is he doesn't K many adding to the yankees chances

  • LOL what a complete flop of an article. All four teams failed. Unless you really consider Baltimore's 5 runs a good stack. At least I can get a good chuckle out of your recommendations more often than not =D

    • Sure just some things to take a look at. Top lineups from our projection system included V-Mart, Ortiz, Walker and Adam Jones. So things as a whole are looking fantastic.

  • The optimal lineup I generated for the all day contests only had Ortiz, none of the others you mentioned. Could I be doing something wrong?

    • Oh I was speaking about the evening contests there. Didn't play the whole day slate

  • I was using the DK lineup, thats why no Vmart and those other guys you mentioned. Didn't realize those were FD picks. Bummer.
