Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Jeff Samardzija and Jake Arrieta in the Main Article. And will be going over a few more options below.

Trevor Bauer FD 8900 DK 12800
Opponent - ATL (Gant) Park - @ATL
FD - 33.85 DK - 18.35

Trevor Bauer started the year off in the bullpen, but when his number was called upon to become join the rotation, he has proven to his teammates and coaches that he should stick in the rotation. He is coming into tonight's contest sporting a 3.20 ERA to go along with a 3.28 FIP. This kid has been everything the Indians had hoped for and more. The one thing I love the most about this kid is his upside. He owns a 22.8 K% to go along with a 7.8 BB%. He has been able to limit the walks (compared to his career), which has helped him not only as a starter, but also as a reliable fantasy option.

He will be going up against the Braves today, which is always a good thing, but also a bad thing. The good: The Braves own a .286 wOBA and (29th in MLB) and .096 ISO (30th in MLB) against right-handed pitchers. That sounds like an amazing matchup, so what exactly is the bad? The bad is: The Braves don't K a lot. They own a 19.2 K%, which will take a hit at Bauer's upside. The matchup is a thing of beauty and the Indians' bats are on fire, so I like his chances of picking up the W and delivering a quality start. Go ahead and plug him in some tournament lineups!

Matt Shoemaker FD 8500 DK 9900
Opponent - HOU (McHugh) Park - @LAA
FD - 31.1 DK - 16.8

Up next on our pitcher breakdown we got the guy who pitches for the Angels for living and in the offseason he makes shoes. You guessed it -- it's Matt [Shoemaker]. Shoemaker has been a completely different pitcher. Guess he started making leather shoes this past offseason which is the reason for this year's success. On a serious note, Shoemaker has been the biggest surprise in baseball. He is coming into this contest sporting a 4.43 ERA that is backed up by a 3.54 xFIP! Don't be fooled by his ERA, this man is on a mission and has been damn good! I mean look at his recent starts. In the past month, Shoemaker owns a 2.50 ERA, his FIP and xFIP are also in the two's and owns an 84.3 LOB%. This kid is on a roll, so go ahead and roster the guy who makes shoes in the offseason! Plus, he will be going up against the Astros who own a 24.3 K% (3rd in MLB) against right-handed pitchers, so just know he has some big upside!

Robbie Ray FD 7800 DK 9300
Opponent - PHI (Velasquez) Park - @ARI
FD - 30.63 DK - 16.78

In the "Stacking Article" I talked about my love for the Tampa Bay Rays, but for pitchers, I love me a different type of Ray -- It's Robbie Ray! Mr. Ray is a guy with huge upside. He is coming into this contest sporting a 25.6 K%! He has major upside which is what we look for when rostering a pitcher. The issue and the reason for inconsistency for the 24-year-old have been the walks. He owns a 9.6 BB%, which has hurt him quite a bit. If he is able to keep the walks in control against the Phillies (6.4 BB%) (29TH in MLB), he should have himself a day!

The Phillies are solid against right-handed pitchers, but are awful against lefties. They are coming into this contest with a .264 wOBA (30th in MLB) to go along with a 23.6 K% (7th in MLB). This is a perfect matchup for the southpaw, now he's just got to go out there and execute! You got this Robbie Ray. P.S. I will have a lot of Rays in my lineups tonight!

  • Already had Ray topping my stack! You guys are all about the Rays today. Who will we see in the Longball.... hummmm.

  • Yes finally the maker of shoes getting some love he's been pitching out of his mind lately definitely my number 1 in tournaments love the fact he made it in the article

  • Haha I might surprise you, Corey!

Mike, he's the man! Any guy that makes shoes should be rostered into your lineups no matter the matchup and price tag!

  • Any love for joe Ross today? Mets have been terrible they made bud Norris look like Nolan Ryan yesterday I know it's Thor tonight but it seems like he'd have to toss a shutout and homer to give them a chance which he certainly can do just seems more likely they get owned by Ross
