Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Luis Perdomo (Padres)
Park - Rogers Center

While most(myself included) like to target the Jays when they face left handed pitching, they actually rank a little better vs. righties sitting 7th in wOBA(.332) and tied for the 3rd best ISO(.191). They get a very favorable matchup today vs. the Padres and Luis Perdomo who has been less than impressive this season. He has an average strikeout rate(7.16 K/9), awful walk rate(3.24 BB/9) and is giving up a 21% HR/FB rate, even as a heavy ground ball pitcher. He isn't as bad as the ERA(6.93) suggests but the xFIP isn't great either at 4.04. The Jays are hot right now winning three straight and six of their last eight games and currently lead the Wildcard. I mentioned in the podcast that they are a team that you target outside the Top 5 hitters as they are deep throughout. This is a good thing as it will be very hard to fit the Top 5 in a  lineup together if you want a chance at rostering some viable pitchers.

Top Hitters in the Stack - Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion

Value Hitters to Stack - Kevin Pillar, Devon Travis, Melvin Upton Jr.(Hitting Cleanup??)

Punt Play - Josh Thole

Detroit Tigers vs. Eduardo Rodriguez (Red Sox)
Park - Fenway Park

I think both teams in this game make great stacking but I lean the Tigers side for a few reasons. First of all, the Red Sox prices are sky high right now making it near impossible to do a four or five player stack where the Tigers salaries are much more balanced. The main reason I like the Tigers is the matchup vs. Eduardo Rodriguez who has struggled to carry over his from from an impressive 2015 campaign. He has only recorded two wins on the season in large part to the awful 6.70 ERA and an xFIP of 5.34 which is not much better. He has a below average strikeout rate(6.48 K/9) and is currently walking over three batters per nine innings and giving up a 17% HR/FB rate. The Tigers, much like the Jays, give us plenty of options when stacking with up to seven viable options today.

Top Hitters in the Stack - Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez

Value Hitters to Stack - Jose Iglesias, Justin Upton

Punt Play - James McCann

Chicago Cubs vs. Anthony Ranaudo (White Sox)
Park - Wrigley Field

The Cubs are currently projected at around 5.5 runs tonight at home in a great matchup vs. the White Sox. I can easily see them going over that total as they face a complete gas can in Anthony Ranaudo. This will be his first start of 2016 after making two previous relief appearances. In those appearances he pitched 3.2 innings and gave up just two hits but an absurd eight walks which lead to seven earned runs. If he continues down this path as a starter today the Cubs could hit the over in the first couple of innings.

Top Hitters in the Stack - Dexter Fowler, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo

Value Hitters to Stack - Ben Zobrist, Willson ContrerasJavier Baez

Punt Play - Jason Heyward

Also Consider - Minnesota Twins vs. Michael Foltynewicz
