Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 12/30/16

Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 12/30/16

Well, it's the final TGIF of 2016 and we have a nice four-game slate in the NHL tonight. The Blackhawks, Predators and Ducks will all be playing on a back to back but I am not all concerned on a small slate and just days removed from the Christmas Break. Let's dig in and take a look at a few of the top value plays from our projection system.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIES

Martin Jones FD - $8900 DK - $7900
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 17.45 DK - 4.36

As much as I am a hard core Flyers fan, I must separate fandom with proper research when looking into daily fantasy matchups from a day to day basis. I feel that I have done a pretty good job of knowing when to fade the Flyers and it feels like another one of those nights. Their big winning streak is a thing of the past as they have now lost two straight and four of their last five games and are just a .500 club on the road. The Sharks, on the other hand, are much better on home ice where they will be tonight, looking to win their fourth straight game. Martin Jones has been inconsistent all year but has ben dealing lately, winning three straight starts not allowing more than two goals any of those games. He has also been much better at home this season where he has gone 10-4 with a .930 save percentage. Even against a Top 10 offense, Jones is safe in all formats on a short slate.

CENTERS

Artem Anisimov FD - $7100 DK - $6000
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 12.67 DK - 3.65

He has picked up right where he left off before an injury caused him to miss three games in mid-December. Anisimov has now scored in back to back games since returning and has now tallied goals in six of his last eight games for the Blackhawks. Even with all of this production his salary keeps dropping on DraftKings and on a small four-game slate is a safe option in all formats.

Stack With: Patrick Kane, Artemi Panarin

Joe Thornton FD - $5600 DK - $5200
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 10.78 DK - 3.52

If you are looking to go even more balanced at center tonight, take a shot with Joe Thornton in a favorable spot. He will be at home to a Flyers team that has lost two straight games where they have been out scored 10-3 and have allowed four powerplay goals against. Big Joe is one of the best powerplay play makers in history and has been hot lately with nine points in his last 10 games. The Flyers always rank high up in penalty minutes per game so expect a few extra opportunities for the Sharks top PP unit tonight.

PP Stack with: Logan Couture, Brent Burns, Joe Pavelski

WINGERS

Vladimir Tarasenko FD - $8800 DK - $8100
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 17.05 DK - 5.53

He is the most expensive winger on both sites tonight and with names like Patrick Kane and Joe Pavelski coming at a discount, he will most certainly be a contrarian option. The fact it is only a four-game slate also makes it tough to fit him in with less value plays. This is what I love to see from a GPP perspective as his upside is through the roof as he is one of only nine players averaging above a point per game.

Stack with: Jori Lehtera, Alexander Steen

Viktor Arvidsson FD - $5700 DK - $5800
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 11.94 DK - 3.5

From a PTS/$ perspective, Arvidsson still ranks very high among wingers despite cooling off in the point department. The big reason why is his shot volume as he is averaging over three shots on goal per game resulting from an elite 14th rank in shot attempts per 60 minutes(19.5). He is safe in all formats under $6k on both sites.

Stack with: Ryan Johansen, Filip Forsberg

DEFENSEMEN
Brent Burns FD - $8300 DK - $8300
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 18.6 DK - 5.96

You knew I was going here, didn't you? I mean all the pieces line up for another monster night. He has been red hot with 12 points in his last 10 games including two straight multi-point efforts against the Oilers and Ducks. He is also the centerpiece of the powerplay which is going to get its chances tonight against a Flyers team that takes tons of penalties and is playing poor defensive hockey lately. He will be tough to fit into cash game lineups tonight with a high price tag but makes a perfect GPP play on a smaller slate.

Jaccob Slavin FD - $4100 DK - $4100
Opponent - CHI
Proj Pts FD - 9.26 DK - 2.8

If it's cash game value you are after, take a hard look at Jaccob Slavin tonight. The matchup isn't ideal against the Blackhawks but he doesn't really provide a ton of offensive upside anyway. His value comes in the form of shot blocking where he has recorded 27 over his last 10 games and averages right around 2.5 for the season. It also helps he gets time on the Canes powerplay where he has recorded three points in his last 10 games. With a low $4K salary on both sites, I think he also makes sense for GPP's as a salary relief option.
