Boston Red Sox vs. Jordan Zimmerman(DET)

I know what you are thinking as I am thinking the same thing. How can we stack the Red Sox when they have been ice cold? It comes down to taking the small sample size mentality out of the equation and factoring overall talent and opportunity with the current matchup. On Friday, looking at the projections, the Red Sox top the list with just over 5.5 implied runs. It has a lot to do with the matchup vs. Jordan Zimmerman who has continued to regress in 2017 after falling off a cliff in 2016. He comes into tonight with 5.98 ERA and the 5.49 xFIP suggests things aren't going to get much better. Yes, he is coming off a nice performance allowing just one earned run but it was the White Sox who rank second to last in hitting vs. right-handed pitching so I wouldn't look too much into that result. The big picture shows us that Zimmerman just isn't producing ground balls(30%) or missing bats(5.7 K/9 & 8.3% swing strike rate) and thus is getting rocked around the ballpark.

If you and I are afraid of using the Red Sox, you can bet there are a ton of others who will likely want to avoid as well which could open a window of opportunity when looking at ownership projections. One thing to note with the Red Sox stack is that if you are wanting to use Benintendi it is best to use him on FanDuel as the price has hit a ridiculous $4,700 on DraftKings, higher than his teammate Mookie Betts.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Vance Worley(MIA)

I never really get too excited about stacking the Pirates as they have been one of the worst offensive teams in the league this season but if there was a spot to target them, it's tonight. Despite losing three straight games, they rank inside the Top 10 in wOBA and wRC+ over the last seven days and get an elite matchup vs. arguably the worst pitcher on the slate. Worley entered the league in 2008 in the Phillies system and has bounced back and forth between the minors and majors for five different teams over the past seven years. This says a lot about his level of talent. So far in three starts this year he has pitched a total of 12.2 innings giving up 10 earned runs(6.59 ERA) while striking out just nine batters and walking four. He has, by far, the lowest swinging strike rate(4.4%) of any pitcher on the slate and also the highest hard contact rate against(50%) making him a perfect target for a Pirates stack which could end up being the top value of the night.
