Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/9/18

Hello hockey fans and welcome to another day of exciting day of NHL action. Fridays are normally quiet in the NHL world, but today we have an awesome eight-game slate on tap for us. There are five teams playing in a back-to-back(NYI, CGY, VAN, STL, DAL) and two teams who will be playing their third game in four nights(CGY, STL). This should make it a very entertaining slate, so let's not waste any more time and dive right into the picks.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Connor Hellebuyck FD -
$8400 DK - $7800
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 16.93 DK - 4.23

We are going to have a race to the finish for the Vezina Trophy and this young man will be right in the thick of things. "Helly" has been like a brick wall this season, especially on home ice where he is an amazing 18-1-2 to go along with a 2.05 GAA, four shutouts, and a stifling .931 save %. The Blues are ranked 22nd offensively and this will be their third game in four nights, which is exhausting for any team, and the Jets blanked them in their last meeting as this guy stopped all 24 shots. All things considered, Hellebuyck is an elite play and my top goalie in all formats.

Braden Holtby FD - $9100 DK - $8200
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 15.27 DK - 3.82

After giving up six goals in Pittsburgh two games ago, the veteran tender allowed only two goals to the Jackets and their 29th ranked offense, who he will be playing against again this evening. Holtby has allowed at least two goals in 24 straight appearances, which isn't good news from a safety standpoint, but he still has an impressive 27 victories, which is third best in the league. The Capitals are a much better team on home-ice, so while I will be using Hellebuyck in 100% of my cash game lineups, I like Holtby as a lower owned GPP play this evening.

Also Consider: Ben Bishop(DAL) GPP formats only

CENTERS

Connor McDavid FD - $9100 DK - $7700
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 16.25 DK - 4.69

Holy Mackerel, this guy is playing like a man possessed lately as he has seven goals, two assists, and 15 shots in his last three games, which puts him tied for third in the league with 63 points. The Ducks are ranked 14th defensively, but they allow the fifth most shots per game, which is bad news for them as "McJesus" is one of the hottest players in the league right now. The Oilers are 5-2-1 in their last eight games, so look for this guy to be extremely motivated as they try and push for a playoff spot and lock and load McDavid in all formats.

Stack with: Leon Draisaitl, Milan Lucic(PP)

Tyler Seguin FD - $8000 DK - $7300
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 15.36 DK - 4.56

My friend and fellow writer, Chris Durell said in yesterday's article that Seguin is much better while playing on home-ice. Well, he is correct, but the superstar has potted two goals in Chicago as I write this and today he gets to come back to Dallas and face-off against the Penguins and their 20th ranked defense. In his last three games, he has three goals, two assists, and 14 shots, and 32 of his 48 points have been at home. The Stars are in a back-to-back today, but that doesn't scare me one bit against a weak Penguins road defense, so fire Seguin up in all formats.

Stack with: Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov

Henrik Zetterberg FD - $5400 DK - $5000
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 10.1 DK - 2.91

This guy will be in the Hall of Fame as soon as he retires, so why not write about him for possibly the last time. We need some exposure to the Red Wings as they are about to play the Islanders and their league-worst defense and the veteran superstar is still playing on the #1 line and the #1 powerplay unit. Zetterberg had an assist last game to give him two in his last three and while he averages under two shots per game, he is risky for cash games, but he has a decent amount of upside which makes him a solid GPP play stacked with his line-mates.

Stack with: Gustav Nyquist, Anthony Mantha

Also Consider: Anze Kopitar(LA)

WINGERS

Alex Ovechkin FD - $9000 DK - $7700
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 17.28 DK - 5.01

I mentioned the Hall of Fame, well you may as well make a statue of "The Great Eight" and just put him in there right now. The Russian superstar had two assists and a whopping eight shots last game giving him three multi-point efforts in his last five and 26 shots in his last six, giving him a high ceiling and a high floor. The Blue Jackets own the league's 10th best defense overall, but they dip down to 20th while playing on the road and their penalty kill is ranked fifth-worst, so all things considered, Ovechkin is an elite play and safe in all formats.

Stack with: Evgeni Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom(PP)

Johnny Gaudreau FD - $8000 DK - $7300
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 15.28 DK - 4.41

"Johnny Hockey" and the Flames have cranked up their offense lately and this guy has a goal and three assists in his last three games which gives him points in seven of his last nine and 11 of his last 13(he has a goal and an assist as I write this). While safety is normally a concern as he has averaged only 2.8 shots on goal this season, a matchup against the Rangers is very appealing as they're ranked 23rd in defense, 29th in shots allowed per game, and they have lost their last four games while allowing 17 goals during that span. I'm willing to live with the fact that the Flames are playing their third game in four nights because of how bad the Rangers have been, so Gaudreau is a great GPP play stacked with his line-mates and a decent cash game play.

Stack with: Sean Monahan, Michael Ferland

Corey Perry FD - $5500 DK - $5000
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 11.01 DK - 3.16

After missing some time due to an injury and switching from line-to-line, the Ducks finally promoted the star winger to the #1 line and the #1 powerplay unit and he hasn't looked back since. In those three games, he has two goals, four assists, and 12 shots and the Oilers are ranked 27th defensively with their penalty kill sitting at a league-worst 31st. From a PTS/$ perspective, Perry is a great play in all formats.

Stack with: Rickard Rakell, Ryan Getzlaf

Also Consider: Josh Bailey(NYI) All formats, Jonathan Huberdeau(FLA) GPP formats

DEFENSEMEN

Jake Muzzin FD - $4900 DK - $5300
Opponent - FLA
Proj Pts FD - 11.05 DK - 3.31

Is this guy trying to look like Brent Burns? He has a long way to go but regardless, he is pretty good at hockey as he has points in 10 of his last 11 games and he has 10 shots and eight blocks in his last four. The Panthers are ranked second-worst in shots allowed per game and seventh-worst in goals allowed per game, so fire Muzzin up in all formats.

Stephen Johns FD - $4000 DK - $3700
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 10.21 DK - 2.92

Not many people know who this guy is yet, but he's been playing well lately as he has a goal, 15 shots, and 14 blocks in his last five games, and he has a goal, three shots, and seven blocks against Chicago as I'm writing this. That's impressive, so at these cheap prices, lock Johns into your cash game lineups and spend up elsewhere folks.

Also Consider: John Carlson(WSH) All formats, Brandon Montour(ANA) All formats, Kris Russell(EDM) Cash game formats.
