Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Friendly reminder that Coors is still the top stack on Saturday as well.

Miami Marlins vs. John Lamb (Reds)
Park - Marlins Park

John Lamb is another one of those guys who still has a major league gig, and we DFSers are all the more grateful for it. He’s a weaker arm who struggles to strike out batters and walks more than four per nine. The 5.01 xFIP is just below the 5.43 ERA and both mean we can target all the Marlins bats on this Saturday afternoon affair. The Fish have middle of the order guys like Marcel Ozuna (1.031 OPS v lefties over last two seasons) and Giancarlo Stanton who’s rounding into shape after a rough stretch of the season. J.T. Realmuto is a great cheaper option at catcher especially if he’s hitting up in the lineup. Marlins Park plays below average to power but I'm willing to overlook it here because of Lamb's ineptitude.

Texas Rangers vs. Ricky Nolasco (Twins)
Park - Globe Life Park in Arlington

Speaking of great hitter’s parks, Globe Life really boosts power expectation to all sides of the plate. We can thank the hot air in Texas for a good portion of that. Last year it was eighth in the league for lefty power and the Rangers employ a number of bats near the top of the lineup who can do damage. Shin-Soo Choo in the leadoff spot has the power/ patience combo we love for upside. He’s walking more than 11% of the time this season with an OPS over .900 since coming off the DL. Behind him cheaper bats like Prince Fielder, Nomar Mazara and even Ian Desmond in a reverse platoon make for intriguing buys against Nolasco.

Boston Red Sox vs. Matt Moore (Rays)
Park - Fenway Park

The Red Sox are going to be another team we take a long hard look at against Matt Moore. In 2015, Moore gave up a .375 wOBA against righties that is backed up by a 4.49 xFIP and a 34% hard contact rate. While the Red Sox top bat is better against righties, they have plenty of bats that mash left handers. My favorite of the bunch would Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Dustin Pedroia, Hanley Ramirez and David Ortiz, in that order. With Moore giving up such a bad wOBA and high hard contact rate, you can expect him to have some real big troubles with the green monster breathing down his neck. while I definitely expect the So to pepper the wall, we are hoping that they will get a few over it. Depending on the ownership, they might be my favorite stack of the day right up there with the Rangers and Marlins. Stack Away!!!!!

  • Not sure how ". J.T. Realmuto is a great cheaper option at catcher". He's the most expensive catcher on the early slate...at least he is on DK.
