Pitchers

Johnny Cueto FD 9000 DK 8900
Opponent - SD (Richard) Park - @SD
FD - 34.11 DK - 18.03

Looking at the early DraftKings optimizer, it is favoring the bat's thanks to some nice value on the mound. It starts with Cueto in a NL West matchup as the Giants travel South to Petco to face the Padres. The pick recommendation here is almost exclusively based on the matchup as Cueto has had a very up and down first half. The issue was his control as he is currently walking over three batters per nine and generating less than 40% ground balls. In turn, he has been hit to the tune of a 4.51 ERA and 4.41 xFIP. He is a GPP only option, for me at least, until he shows more consistent control but tonight is a good night to target him facing the Padres who rank second to last in wOBA and wRC+ and strike out more than any team vs. right-handed pitching.

Charlie Morton FD 7700 DK 6900
Opponent - MIN (Berrios) Park - @HOU
FD - 31.47 DK - 16.59

No surprise that the league's best team open as the second biggest favorite(-165) as baseball returns for the second half. Their absolutely deadly lineup has really gives a boost to the pitching staff, at least from a fantasy perspective as the win potential is always through the roof. Tonight they throw Charlie Morton to the bump to face the Minnesota Twins who rank right around league average when it comes to wOBA and wRC+ vs. right-handed pitching. They strike out just over 22% of the time vs. righties and that helps boost the upside Morton already brings to the table with his 9.61 K/9 rate. There is always some risk with Morton as he can give up home runs at times but the cost is low, the park is great, and the matchup is above average.
